The Miami Dolphins (1-6) are a dumpster fire in their current state.
Week 7 was the perfect opportunity for the Dolphins to get back on track against the Cleveland Browns, but instead they were blown out 31-6. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw three interceptions and was pulled from the game in favor of rookie signal caller Quinn Ewers. The former Texas Longhorns quarterback completed five of his eight pass attempts for 53 yards.
Change is needed in Miami, but unfortunately for Dolphins fans, it may not be coming quite yet.
Are the Dolphins Firing Head Coach Mike McDaniel?
Given the Dolphins have a 1-6 record, most are anticipating that head coach Mike McDaniel will be fired in the near future. However, the Week 7 loss to the Browns must not have convinced the front office it’s his time to go.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport made a major announcement about the Dolphins, sharing, “On the Miami Dolphins: No changes are expected at this time, I’m told.”
Not only does this mean the Dolphins are not firing McDaniel, but it could also suggest Tagovailoa will remain the starter heading into their Week 8 game against the Atlanta Falcons (3-3). Tagovailoa has thrown for 1,313 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and a league-leading 10 interceptions this season, which explains why he was pulled against Cleveland.
The Dolphins couldn’t put up with his poor level of play any longer, so it was worth giving Ewers a shot to shine.
McDaniel was the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021 before being hired as the Dolphins’ head coach in 2022. He showed serious promise in his first two seasons leading Miami, as the team finished with records of 9-8 (2022) and 11-6 (2023). 2024 is when some calls began to mount for McDaniel to be let go, as the Dolphins finished with a record of 8-9 and greatly underperformed at times.
Now more than ever, Dolphins fans are ready to see a new leader on the sidelines.
NFL fans had quite the array of reactions to McDaniel benching Tagovailoa against the Browns, as some were rejoicing and others simply used it as an opportunity to call for the head coach’s firing.
“McDaniel is so weak. Benched Tua but pulls other starters out so it doesn’t look like a benching,” one fan said. Fire this dweeb.”
“Tua Turndaballover has been benched $54M a year, a week after calling his team mates out The ‘Bad Vibes’ Miami Dolphins are SO back,” one fan pointed out.
“Thank god Tua benched,” said yet another NFL fan.
All eyes should be on the Dolphins in the coming weeks to see how the organization approaches this chaotic situation.
