‘Everybody Wants Us All Fired’ – Dolphins GM Chris Grier Gets Brutally Honest About the Pressure He’s Under in Miami

Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier makes a bold, unconventional admission about his job -- and the fans' opinion about it.

Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier isn’t afraid to admit getting hate. Although not very normal in the NFL, Grier boldly confessed to getting calls from people asking to fire him after the Dolphins lost twice consecutively in the Wild Card round and has the longest playoff-win drought in the league.

Frustration from fans translates to pressure for the front office, which Miami’s general manager agreed on. In his recent press conference, Grier opened up on how he handles the hate and keeps going.

Chris Grier’s Unconventional Confession

“We see how many people are calling for me to get fired after a season like that,” Grier said during the April 15 press conference. “It’s just the nature of the beast. The NFL is one of the most popular leagues in the world.”

However, Grier isn’t one to leave the Dolphins this easily, especially since he’s called Miami his home for 25 years. He joined the franchise as a scout in 2000 and then climbed through the team’s front office ladder before establishing himself as general manager in 2016.

The Dolphins made it into the postseason twice in the last three seasons, but they were knocked out in the Wild Card round on both occasions. This keeps the team on their toes for their first playoff win in over two decades.

“I feel pressure every year to win. As I said, if you don’t have the pressure and want to win this year, then you’re in the wrong business. We know what it is. You understand what’s going on; you feel the pressure, but you don’t let it drive you. You do your job to the best of your ability and work with guys, and you have to work under pressure.

“So for me, it’s just doing the best job we can and making good, smart decisions for the Miami Dolphins,” Grier added.

The 2025 season would likely play a very pivotal role in Dolphins franchise history and for Grier and other front office members’ jobs. A playoff win would be the minimum demand to stop that hate. Advancing further into the playoffs than just one win will give the brownie points from the fan base while simultaneously lowering the hate.

Miami’s wins would also depend heavily on how they shape their roster through the 2025 NFL Draft. The franchise has 10 selections, starting from No. 13 overall in Round 1. The focus will be on carefully picking players to fill the roster gaps.
