“Doesn’t Seem Like a Wise Move”: NFL Fans React As Travis Hunter Shares Plans To Play Both Ways in the League

Colorado’s star Travis Hunter is one of the most hyped-up players in this year’s NFL Draft class; this is not just because he was electrifying throughout the 2024 college football season and won the 2024 Heisman Trophy honor, but because he’s extremely impactful on both sides of the football.

There is much debate about whether Hunter should play both ways in the NFL, with most analysts advising the Colorado star against it.

However, during the 2025 NFL Combine press conference, Hunter shared that he believes in himself and his ability to play both ways.

Hunter’s Colorado coach, Deion Sanders, made it clear that NFL teams should refrain from picking the Colorado star if they don’t plan on allowing him to play both ways.

Many analysts believe it’s not a good idea for Hunter to do so because he won’t be able to unlock his maximum potential at either position, he will be more prone to injuries, and some think it’ll be tough for him to play 120-plus snaps in a season.

However, despite the chatter about his future in the league, Hunter remains confident in his ability to play both offense and defense in the NFL.

During a press conference at the 2025 NFL Combine, Hunter told reporters that he “did some meetings at receiver, did some meetings at defensive back.”

Hunter also shared that NFL teams mention how nobody has ever done this for real in the way the Colorado star does it, to which he replies, “I’m just different.”

Reacting to these statements, one fan commented, “I don’t know that no one does it because they can’t in the short term. But long term it doesn’t seem like a wise move. More snaps = more wear and tear = increased injury risk = shorter career life.”

“Love the enthusiasm and passion. I just pray this young brother’s body can actually hold up in the league playing both sides. I pray he can do it, we can’t put limitations on anyone’s dreams,” another fan added.

“His college snap count backs it up. That’s a tall order, rarely seen since Deion. Could be a game-changer if he does,” another fan highlighted.

“I wish he could’ve done it in the Big Ten, ACC, SEC. He didn’t face top competition at that level on a weekly basis, and the pro level is going to be way harder to go both ways,” another fan pointed out.

“Bro will get hurt way too much. I don’t think a single team will be OK taking on that risk. It’s probably easier to be a full-time CB and get reps at WR in some games,” another fan added.

“Be cool, but don’t see it happening. Gotta be in WR meetings and DB meetings. Not enough time in the week,” another fan commented.

The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine is taking place in Indianapolis from Feb. 27 to March 2.
