‘Some Teams Are Taking a Closer Look’ — Diego Pavia Gets Major Boost Heading Into 2026 NFL Draft

Diego Pavia's interest across the NFL is growing at the right time. Could the former Vanderbilt QB hear his name called in the draft?

The 2026 NFL Draft is just a few days away now, and that means it’s almost time for a new wave of talent to prove themselves in the NFL.

While quarterback Fernando Mendoza seems like a sure thing for the No. 1 overall pick, and Ty Simpson seems to be a late first-round or early second-round selection, the rest of the quarterback class remains pretty up in the air.

Where does that leave Diego Pavia?

Adam Schefter Says NFL Teams Are Interested in Diego Pavia

The former Vanderbilt quarterback did just about everything he could to show his grit and determination to win football games during his time at Vanderbilt; however, the other stuff is what has held him back.

That other stuff includes his measurables (height, arm length, etc.) and his attitude. While some can get behind his cocky confidence, others see it as immaturity and wonder if he would make it in the NFL.

But ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that teams have a growing interest in the Commodore.

“One of Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia’s strongest traits is his confidence,” Schefter wrote. “He says he believes his skills rival any QB in this draft, and that teams are making a mistake going off potential and measurables rather than production and intangibles.”

“Some teams are taking a closer look,” Schefter added. “The Panthers recently had Pavia in for a visit, and others are doing their own work on him. Expect his name to be called this weekend, allowing him to set out to prove he can win wherever he plays.”

That’s all Pavia is hoping for. He may believe he’s capable of being the best quarterback in the draft, but even he knows he won’t be drafted early. However, as long as Pavia gets drafted or signs with a team, he’ll have his shot to prove his worth on the field, where he’s most comfortable.

Pavia had a breakout 2025 season at Vanderbilt, completing an SEC-best 70.6% of his passes for 3,539 yards and an SEC-leading 29 touchdowns with 8 interceptions to finish as the Heisman runner-up to Mendoza.

He also added 862 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. According to PFSN’s CFB QB Impact Metric, he was the best quarterback in college football last season and had an impact score of 94.8.

Pavia has shown he can compete with the best of the best in college, but his size, potential, and, at times, his attitude hold him back.

But all he needs is a shot. And Schefter’s reporting that teams are growing interested in the 24-year-old.

At this point, it seems like it’s a matter of when, not if, he’ll be drafted. Then, it’s on him to prove his doubters wrong and carve himself a role in the NFL.
