‘WTF,’ ‘Oh My Gawd’ — Cowboys Legend Dez Bryant, NFL World React to ‘Crazy’ Game 1 of Thunder-Spurs WCF

Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs stole Game 1 of the WCF on the road against the Thunder in a 2OT thriller, and the NFL world had thoughts.

The San Antonio Spurs went into Oklahoma City and stole one. Victor Wembanyama was the star of the evening, dropping a stat line that doesn’t look real, and the NFL crowd was watching every minute. San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle had a courtside seat for the collision, while Dez Bryant, Robert Griffin III, Pat McAfee, and others couldn’t stop posting.

Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals went to double overtime in OKC, and the football world melted down right alongside the basketball one as the Spurs escaped with the win.

NFL World Loses It After Victor Wembanyama’s Dominant Game 1

The Spurs beat the defending champs 122-115 in double overtime on Monday. Wembanyama finished with 41 points, 24 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. OKC’s Alex Caruso went off for 31 points off the bench, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who received his second straight MVP award pregame, shot 7-of-23 for 24 points.

Kittle had the best seat in the building. The tight end was courtside and the broadcast showed him several times throughout the game, including when Wemby lowered his shoulder into Caruso in the fourth quarter. For a guy who makes his living on contact, he clearly appreciated it.

Dallas Cowboys legend Dez Bryant posted two sharp and short tweets. First, “This game crazy!” And then a few minutes later, he wrote, “WEMBY!

Bryant, the Cowboys legend, showed his excitement throughout the game by dropping an alien emoji, while also writing, “WEMBY! … This game crazy!”

Former NFL cornerback Darius Butler also shared an alien emoji to celebrate Wembanyama’s dominance.

Sports radio host Jim Rome summed up his excitement in four words: “Oh my gawd, Wemby”

After Wembanyama’s clutch logo 3, ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt added: “An 8 foot tall French guy just shot a 30 footer like it was nothing and I am aghast as a mf over here.”

NFL analyst Warren Sharp was stunned by the deep 3 as well, writing “WTF Wemby lol,” followed by two alien emojis.

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III sent several posts throughout the game. He first stated, “Whoever wins this series between the Spurs and Thunder will win the NBA Title.” After a few minutes, he wrote, “VICTOR WEMBANYAMA IS AN ALIEN.”

In a separate tweet, RG3 also called Wemby the future. He rattled off his stat line from the night and noted, “WE HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE VICTOR WEMBANYAMA BEFORE… Hitting pull up 3’s from the Logo. Wemby is the future and the future is now.”

Former NFL punter and current ESPN broadcaster Pat McAfee gave Caruso his flowers early: “Caruso’s an absolute dawg.” Then, he was equally stunned by Wembanyama’s deep shot, adding,  “WEMBY FROM THE LOGO,” followed by a bunch of laughing emojis.

It was indeed a special night for San Antonio. The Spurs hadn’t been to the Conference Finals since 2017, and they made the most of their return trip with a road win over the defending champions despite being shorthanded (with De’Aaron Fox out due to an ankle injury).

OKC entered the Western Conference Finals with a perfect 8-0 record in the playoffs, but Wemby and San Antonio just broke their winning streak.

The Spurs went 4-1 against the Thunder in the regular season. Game 2 will tip off on Wednesday at Paycom Center.
