DeVonta Smith just capped off a Super Bowl championship season with the Philadelphia Eagles, but his biggest victory might have happened off the field. On New Year’s Eve 2024, the star wide receiver got down on one knee and proposed to his longtime girlfriend, creating a perfect ending to what was already a career-defining year.
Now, as Smith prepares for the Eagles’ season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night, he’s balancing championship expectations with the joys of fatherhood and planning a wedding.
How Did DeVonta Smith’s Personal Life Evolve During His Championship Season?
Smith has been quite busy off the field, building a life with his fiancée, Mya Danielle. Danielle works in the fashion industry and runs her own brand called Shop LTK, showing she’s just as driven in her career as Smith is in his.
The couple has been together since 2023, and they’ve already started their family. They are the proud parents of Kyse Danielle, who was born in October 2023, and their newest addition, Kali Danielle, who arrived in April 2025.

Mya attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the same school where Smith’s mother earned her degree. The couple made their engagement official on Dec. 31, 2024, when Smith asked Mya to be his wife. They’re now planning their wedding while juggling two young children and Smith’s NFL career.
What Role Did Smith’s Parents Play in Shaping His Character?
Smith’s upbringing in Louisiana laid the foundation for his disciplined approach to football and life. His parents, Kelvin Dickerson and Christina Smith-Sylve, welcomed him into the world in 1998 in Amite, Louisiana. Smith-Sylve brought her own athletic background to parenting, having played basketball in high school before pursuing social work at Southern University, where she graduated in 1998.
The household Smith-Sylve ran was anything but lenient. In a 2021 profile of Smith in “GQ,” he recalled the strict rules his mother enforced. Smith told the magazine that his mother wanted him home promptly. “When you street lights come on,” he said, “bring yo’ a** inside.”
Meanwhile, Smith spent weekends with his father, creating different but equally important memories. According to the “GQ” profile, those weekends with Dickerson included adventures in the woods, basketball games played on dirt courts, and family crawfish boils that brought everyone together.
Smith also grew up with his brother Christian, who followed in his footsteps by playing high school football at Amite High Magnet School in Amite, Louisiana. The family connection to sports and education clearly influenced Smith’s path to success.
During the 2024-25 season, Smith proved his worth as a championship-caliber receiver, hauling in 68 receptions for 833 yards and eight touchdowns as the Eagles captured their Super Bowl ring. When Thursday night arrives at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Smith will be ready to defend that title against Dallas. However, he’ll also carry the motivation that comes from knowing his fiancée and growing family are watching from the stands, giving him even more reason to perform at his highest level.
