The Miami Dolphins started their Week 3 contest off with a bang, driving down the field for an opening touchdown. The offense then dried up for the most part, as the Dolphins’ main weapons have remained quiet throughout the first half. If the Dolphins can get their best guys involved more, they could have a chance against the powerhouse Bills.
What Happened to De’Von Achane?
Achane has not had the start that many were expecting. Ollie Gordon II had similar carries in the first half and scored one of the two touchdowns for Miami.
However, Achane has been active in the passing game with five catches. He only has 10 yards on those five catches, which is quite inefficient.

Achane had six carries for 35 yards in the first half. It hasn’t been the worst start, but for Achane’s standards, it could be better. He has gotten touches and is healthy going into the second half. Achane and Gordon having the same number of carries in the first half was not on many fans’ bingo cards, but it happened.
Fans were very confused watching Gordon get the goal-line carries in the first half. Achane showed flashes in his rookie season, was great last season, and was poised to build off his electric 2024. That hasn’t been the case so far, but the Dolphins haven’t looked that bad tonight.
The Dolphins are tied with the Bills at half and getting Achane more involved could be the key to leading the Dolphins to a shocking upset victory over Buffalo. The Bills offense has looked dominant, but a missed field goal gave the Dolphins life. The Dolphins have a chance, which many didn’t expect and an elite second half could be the answer for Miami finding their first win.
Achane’s Early Season Performance
Achane has struggled to replicate his form on the ground from 2024. He has 85 yards on the ground in 2024 through two games, and hasn’t been that productive in Week 3 either. The receiving action has been very encouraging, though. Entering tonight’s game, Achane has recorded 11 receptions, 112 yards, and two touchdowns. He has replicated the same volume in Week 3, but not the same yards.
With over 10 yards per reception entering today, Achane was expected to be an explosive weapon in the passing game. He has been that, but the Bills’ defense has shut that down.
Gordon had only had three carries in their first two games, and has doubled that number in tonight’s first half alone. It’s not great for Achane, but it’s clear that his role isn’t dwindling that much, because he’s still leading the running back room in touches. He’s the receiving back and splitting rushing reps with Gordon.
