With Deion Sanders and Devin Hester having electrifying football careers, it is no surprise their children are following in their footsteps. As we all know, Shedeur Sanders is eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft and may go as high as a top-five overall pick.
Devin Hester Jr.’s collegiate career has just begun. With the Furman Paladins, the 5’10” freshman grabbed 16 balls for 124 yards in his opening campaign. As two NFL greats, both Deion and Hester Sr. maintain contact as their sons go down a similar path.

Devin Hester ‘Grateful’ for Opportunity To Talk Daily With Deion Sanders
During a segment of “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams, Hester Sr. discussed what it means for him and Deion to talk daily about their children.
“Deion texts me everyday,” said Hester Sr. “Not a day go by without Deion texting and we having a conversation.”
While the two talk frequently, it is not something Hester takes for granted.

“I’m just learning a lot from him,” said Hester Sr. “Because, he’s been through everything that I am getting ready to go through. Getting all the curveballs and sliders that comes with being a parent and having kids that play sports, you couldn’t get it from a better guy than Deion Sanders.”
Hester Sr. finished by expressing his gratitude to have someone like Deion in his life.
“I’m so grateful to have a guy like that in my corner,” Hester Sr. said. “And to really get a chance to pick his brain and learn from him.”
Hester Sr.’s NFL Career, as Son Looks To Emulate
While Deion leads Shedeur down a similar path, the two did not play the same position. For Hester Sr. though, his son looks to play the same spot his father played professionally. Devin may be remembered most as a return specialist. However, his numbers as a wideout are not to be discounted.
Across eight NFL seasons Hester Sr. generated 3,311 receiving yards on 255 receptions, averaging 13 yards a pop. The long-time Chicago Bear put up 16 career touchdowns solely as a wide receiver.
On the other hand, Hester Sr. as a returner will go down as one of the best to ever do it. Accumulating both punt and kickoff returns, he had 610 attempts between the two. In doing so, he scored 19 total touchdowns and gained a jaw-dropping 11,028 yards.
As Hester Jr. looks to follow in his father’s path, it is good to know he has people like Deion in his corner. Hester Jr. will look to have a larger role as he enters his sophomore season with Furman in 2025.
