The Baltimore Ravens were able to extend running back Derrick Henry, as the two sides agreed to a two-year, $30 million contract extension with $25 million guaranteed on May 14. Ahead of this deal, the star running back was on the final season of a two-year, $16 million contract.
Last season saw Henry become the player with the most rushing yards in his age-30 or older season, surpassing Tiki Barber’s 1,860-yard season in 2005. What does this move mean for the Ravens going forward? Let’s take a closer look at the team going forward.

Derrick Henry Opens Up About Signing 2-Year Extension
Henry showcased that even as he has played nine seasons in the National Football League, he still has a lot in the tank. His 2024 season got a bit overshadowed by Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. With the news coming out about his massive extension, Henry took to X (previously Twitter) to discuss his excitement and appreciative feelings after the ink had dried.
“Flockkkkkk God is good !! @Ravens I’m appreciative & grateful for everyone apart of this great organization & a BIG S/O to all my teammates to be able to make this possible. Thank you Flock Nation for always supporting . Working as hard I can to be able to contribute to us holding up that trophy when it’s all said & done . Love, 22.”

Henry had one of the best seasons of his career with the Ravens in 2024, posting 325 rushing attempts for 1,921 yards (5.9 yards per carry) with a league-leading 16 rushing touchdowns as well as 19 receptions on 22 targets for 193 yards (10.2 yards per catch) with a pair of touchdown receptions. He would finish fourth in the Offensive Player of the Year voting and on Second-Team All-Pro behind Barkley.
As a result of this contract extension, Henry’s $12.895 million cap hit this season only trails the Indianapolis Colts’ Jonathan Taylor for the highest for the position in 2025. It also is fourth in total guaranteed money behind Barkley, rookie Ashton Jeanty, and Taylor.
It will be interesting to see how the veteran running back is going to look this upcoming season as he approaches 2,500 career rushing attempts, but he has shown no signs of slowing down. How he does going forward could help running backs continue to get paid as they get later into their careers.
