A fractured hand brought Carr’s second season, which showed immense promise over the first two weeks, to a premature end with the Saints. However, in the midst of a four-year contract, his return felt imminent.
Unfortunately, a complication in Carr’s right shoulder turned out to be a labral tear, with significant issues in his rotator cuff forcing the QB to call it quits. Right after the decision, his wife Heather shared a compilation on Instagram of the day after.
It wasn’t too different from a usual offseason, though. When his wife asked him, “First day of retirement? What are you gonna do?” the four-time Pro Bowler responded with, “We’re gonna go outside and run together.”

Then, they could be seen running together before hitting the gym along with their four children. Then, they headed out for some food together, presumably as a Mother’s Day celebration. Add in some catching out in the yard, and it was a clear family day for Carr.
A wholesome video throughout, it showed the personal side of the quarterback as he spent the majority of his time around the house with his family. In his retirement message, Carr mentioned Heather by name for making the decision together.
“Upon reflection of prayer, and in discussion with Heather, I’ve decided to retire from the National Football League. For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience.
“It’s difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unwavering support has meant the world to us.”
Immediately after his retirement, Heather also penned a beautiful message for her husband after he made his announcement.
“Happy retirement my love! I’m so proud of you,” she wrote.
“What an amazing 11 year career. All your records, pro bowls, and accomplishments on the field don’t even compare to the husband, dad and man you are off the field. I am so excited for what the Lord has next for us! There is so much more I want to say but I’ll just tell you in person.”
