Derek Carr gets set to take on his 12th NFL season after a disappointing 2024 campaign with the New Orleans Saints. However, the story could unfold differently than Carr may imagine this year.
As a shoulder injury continues to nag the Fresno State alum, his 2025 remains in question. Along with injury concerns, many believe the Saints will go quarterback early in the 2025 NFL Draft, leaving Carr further in limbo.
Carr Provides Life Update via Social Media Post
Carr and brother David recently posted on their “homegrowninsta” account, where they rated a Rolls-Royce. As Carr’s 2025 outlook looks grim, he and his brother appear to have something up their sleeve with their car reviews. With this first video release, there may be more on the way.
NFL writer Dov Kleiman responded to the Carr brothers’ video, writing, “Strange: Saints QB Derek Carr has become a social media influencer, launching a “Carr review” show on YouTube. News broke last week that Carr will likely be out with a shoulder injury this upcoming season. It’s very odd timing to release this video.”

Saints QB Options Ahead of Unpredictable 2025 Season
With Carr’s season and career in jeopardy, the Saints may have to pivot at the game’s most important position. In Carr’s absence last year, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener split time under center. All three return for 2025, as well as former Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci.
While four quarterbacks may seem like a crowded room, it’s possible the Saints aren’t done yet. With the No. 9 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, many believe that if the right quarterback is available, New Orleans will make a move.
New head coach Kellen Moore spent time with Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders at his pro day and reportedly liked what he saw. Since then, many mock drafts have projected the Saints to select Sanders at No. 9.
With the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns seemingly set to not draft a quarterback with their first picks, the likelihood of Sanders falling to No. 9 becomes more realistic.
Where Does New Orleans Go in Recent 2025 Mock?
In a recent seven-round 2025 NFL mock draft by PFSN’s Jacob Infante, Sanders comes off the board at No. 7. In this mock, the Pittsburgh Steelers trade up to land the young star, sending the New York Jets picks No. 21, No. 83, and a 2026 first-rounder.
With Sanders off the board, Infante has the Saints selecting cornerback Will Johnson from Michigan at No. 9.
Eventually, Infante sees the Saints take a quarterback in Round 3 by picking Louisville’s Tyler Shough at No. 93. Infante elaborates on the potential fit between Shough and New Orleans:
“Considering the Saints don’t have a long-term answer at quarterback, investing a Day 2 pick in Tyler Shough, whose arm strength and accuracy as a passer have seen him rise up the boards, would make sense.”
With Carr’s future a total mystery, is drafting a quarterback—despite what many consider a lackluster draft class at the position—the smart move?
