The Pittsburgh Steelers are in an interesting spot when it comes to the 2026 NFL season. With the franchise changing head coaches for the first time since the 2000s, new head coach Mike McCarthy has a relatively clean slate on offense. Aaron Rodgers still remains a question mark, and they don’t have a ton of long-term options outside of DK Metcalf.
Denzel Boston Looking Forward to Potentially Teaming up With DK Metcalf
As a result, the offensive genius can shape the team in his image, with one of the primary names on their radar being Denzel Boston out of Washington. With the NFL Combine allowing him to make an even bigger name for himself, he also found the opportunity to speak about someone who could be a mentor of sorts for him in the league.
A superstar with the Seattle Seahawks, Metcalf found his way to Pittsburgh in the offseason. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald continued to develop their roster, and Metcalf requested a trade, seeking a fresh start. It ultimately worked out for Seattle, while Metcalf got a year with Rodgers under his belt.
Tallying 850 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns in 15 games, he was far and away the most productive wideout for the Steelers. However, he cannot sustain a strong offense on his own.
As a result, the organization will be targeting more playmakers around him to give the offense another edge. Among them, Boston has been a frequent name floated as a draft candidate.
Speaking to the media before the Combine, Brendan Howe asked him about the possibility of teaming up with Metcalf. Immediately, the excitement was palpable. “I would love for the Steelers to come pick me up.”
Continuing on the Metcalf team-up, he added, “Playing with DK would be great.” Moreover, he had a funny anecdote about the two-time Pro Bowler. “Funny story: I actually predicted to my dad that the Seahawks were gonna draft DK, back in his draft class. So it would be a great time for me to go play with DK. I’m a fan of his. Big, dominant receiver.”
Boston, at 6-foot-4 and 209 pounds, certainly qualifies for that mold as well. For the Huskies, he tallied back-to-back seasons with more than 800 receiving yards, while adding 20 touchdowns in just two years.
His penchant for getting in the endzone was particularly elite, earning him rank number 50 on PFSN’s College Football WR Impact. For a Steelers team that doesn’t have a ton of wide receiver depth that they can trust, Boston could be a late steal for them.
