Former Ravens Coach Emerging As Candidate To Become Giants’ DC Under John Harbaugh

Former Ravens defensive backs coach gains momentum as Giants weigh him for DC under John Harbaugh during a major staff overhaul.

The New York Giants are rebuilding their identity, and that reset starts on defense. With a new head coach in place and a unit that struggled badly last season, the hunt for the right coordinator is heating up.

One familiar name is now gaining traction. A former Ravens assistant with deep ties to John Harbaugh is emerging as a serious candidate to help stabilize a defense in need of direction.

Dennard Wilson Emerging as Name to Watch in Giants’ DC Search

Former Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson is expected to interview for the Giants’ defensive coordinator opening, according to ESPN NFL Nation reporter Jordan Raanan. Raanan noted that Wilson “remains a name to watch” as the Giants continue evaluating options for a critical role on John Harbaugh’s first staff in New York.

NFL reporter Connor Hughes added fuel to the speculation, saying, “I’ve heard this name gaining A LOT of steam lately. Covered Dennard during his years with the #Jets. Was with Todd Bowles, then Gregg Williams kept him.”

“I remember asking both Todd Bowles and Gregg Williams if they felt he had coordinator potential,” Hughes said. “Both, separate years, said a variation of the same thing. ‘No. Head coach.’”

Wilson was the Titans’ defensive coordinator in 2024 and 2025, leading a unit that ranked 21st in total defense in 2025 and 15th against the run. While Tennessee struggled to keep points allowed in check, it’s essential to consider the context. The Titans’ offense struggled to sustain drives, leaving the defense on the field for long stretches.

What’s even more impressive is Wilson’s first season calling plays in 2024, when Tennessee boasted the NFL’s No. 2 overall defense. That success helped solidify Wilson’s status as a rising name.

For Giants fans, the most fascinating connection is the history between Wilson and John Harbaugh. Wilson served as Baltimore’s defensive backs coach in 2023 under Harbaugh. That Ravens defense finished first in points allowed and sixth in pass defense, powering a run to the AFC Championship Game. The familiarity and shared language between the two coaches could accelerate a rebuild in New York.

Wilson also brings New York ties. He coached defensive backs for the New York Jets, working under Todd Bowles. That experience gives him insight into the market and the pressure that comes with coaching in the region.

The Giants’ need is clear. They ranked near the bottom of the league defensively in 2025 and fired coordinator Shane Bowen in November. Harbaugh is expected to overhaul the staff, with few holdovers from the previous regime.

If Harbaugh values continuity and proven teaching, Wilson might just be a name that stays in the spotlight right up until the final decision is made.
