The recent ESPN layoffs left a lot of talented people without a job. Deion Sanders wasn’t one of them, as he’s preparing for another season of leading the University of Colorado football team into battle. But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t paying attention to the fact that Ryan Clark and Cam Newton just lost their jobs.
Now Sanders has an alternative idea that just might work for the pair of former NFL Pro Bowlers.

While ESPN felt it could move on without Clark and Newton on its team, that doesn’t mean the end of the line for the two NFL analysts. Both have developed a strong enough following that they’d likely be successful spinning off into whatever football venture they wanted.
Though now Sanders has an idea that could be just what Clark and Newton are looking for. Sanders stated on his X page that the two should just team up and make their own show, along with Robert Griffin III. R
Griffin was let go by ESPN in 2024, and he’s since continued his career with Fox Sports.

Sanders may be on to something here. Popular sports figures like Clark, Newton, ann Griffin have already built up a following. Clark has over 515,000 followers on X alone. Newton is over 1 million, while Griffin is up to 2 million. They don’t necessarily need ESPN’s access to reach their market anymore.

Rather, Clark, Newton, and Griffin may be able to experience even more success pursuing a life outside of ESPN. After all, the sports network left them with no choice but to seek employment elsewhere. Griffin has already moved on, and he can show the other two the path to success elsewhere.
Now, as a trio, they have a chance to show ESPN what they’ll be missing out on.
It sounds like Sanders would tune in to a show led by Clark, Newton, and Griffin. Chances are, the Colorado coach isn’t alone with that opinion.
