Deion Sanders Breaks Silence On Recent Health Scare That Caused Leave of Absence From Colorado

Deion Sanders is finally speaking up about about the recent medical crisis which has pulled him away from the Colorado Buffaloes football program.

Being the son of one of the greatest football players of all time comes with big cleats to fill, and Shedeur Sanders knows it. As the son of Deion Sanders, Shedeur steps into a spotlight built by a Hall of Famer known as much for his flash as his football. It doesn’t matter that Shedeur, his brother Shilo, and their dad all play different positions. That last name carries expectations.

Now, Deion Sanders is entering a new phase with the Colorado Buffaloes, coaching without either of his sons on the roster for the first time in 2025. Still, he’s remained in the headlines after recently stepping away from the team due to health concerns. For the first time, the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year is publicly addressing what’s going on.

Colorado Buffaloes HC Deion Sanders Shares Emotional Update on Recent Health Scare

In a recent post on his X account, Coach Prime spoke candidly about how emotional the support he received made him. While the nature of the illness hasn’t been revealed, Sanders and his sons were quick to point out that he is feeling better.

“Wow, I am truly blessed for the abundance of well wishes, for all of the thoughts and all of the prayers. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!” wrote Sanders on X, followed by the praying hands emoji.

Sanders reiterated that everything is fine and he’s looking forward to getting back to work.

“I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so. God got me like no other. I have so much more work to do to Glorify God so please believe God got me!”

“I am excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team, and all associated to our program. When we arrive back to Boulder you will be updated on everything.”

This isn’t Sanders’ first medical scare. He previously had toes amputated due to blood clots in his left foot that led to surgery in 2021. In 2023, he missed media day for another emergency surgery to remove similar clots in his legs to prevent further complications.

Coach Prime Enters New Era at Colorado Without Sons Shedeur and Shilo Sanders

Now that Sanders will coach for the first time in years without either of his sons, fans are wondering what’s next for Coach Prime.

Sanders and his sons moved to Colorado from Jackson State in 2023. Their first season ended with a disappointing 4-8 record despite a strong start. In 2024, the Buffaloes improved to 9-4, thanks in large part to Heisman Trophy winner and two-way standout Travis Hunter.

Rumors have circulated that Sanders may want to follow his sons into the NFL. Some have even speculated that he might take a coaching role with the Browns. However, he signed a new five-year, $54 million contract in March 2025. That deal bumped him from the 38th highest-paid coach in the NCAA into the top 10.

The Buffaloes’ 2025 season opens on Aug. 29 against Georgia Tech, and the absence of their head coach has many concerned. While Shedeur and Deion might be reassuring everyone that Coach Prime “feels well,” it’s hard to imagine a more pivotal year for Sanders and the program.
