The Colorado Buffaloes football program has gone through an incredible rise, with Deion Sanders playing an instrumental role.
He took a team rooted to the bottom of college football and transformed them into a program that every NFL team has got their eyes on. Alongside his son, Shedeur, part of that turnaround was led by WR LaJohntay Wester. As Wester now kicks off his pro career with the Baltimore Ravens, a proud Sanders watches in the background.
“God Put You In A Great Spot” – Deion Sanders to LaJohntay Wester
Wester only spent a year at Colorado, and played for the Florida Atlantic Owls for four seasons before. He was a major contributor in the offense for the Buffs, and totaled 74 receptions for 931 yards and a career high 10 touchdowns.
Wester was selected 203rd overall by the Ravens on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft and joins an excellent group of receivers in Baltimore to learn from. The 23-year-old has now joined the Ravens’ rookie minicamp and received a call from Deion Sanders, who was very proud and excited for his debut.
“I can’t wait to see you get down-God put you in a great spot man,” Sanders told Wester on FaceTime.

Wester is from Palmetto, Florida, where he played at Palmetto High School. As per the scouting report, he “was a hidden gem as a recruit, having had zero stars and only a handful of offers. Wester ended up earning an offer from Florida Atlantic University and enrolled there as a true freshman.”
As a true freshman, Wester played sparingly, totaling just 17 catches. Nonetheless, he was very productive as a sophomore and a junior with the Owls, recording 702 and 719 receiving yards, respectively. As a senior in 2023, Wester recorded an impressive 108 catches for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns and became the school’s all-time leading receiver. He was also named first-team All-AAC and an All-American.
After four years with Florida Atlantic, Wester decided to enter the transfer portal, where he signed with the Buffaloes to play under head coach Sanders. In his only season with the Buffaloes, Wester was impressive and provided the team with several big plays.
He has very good speed and acceleration. Able to win vertically down the field and is above average overall with his hands and body control to track the football. Although a lack of length and size limits his ability to come down with contested catches, and he also struggled with concentration drops throughout his career.
However, Wester has an opportunity in Baltimore to contribute on special teams early on, and may also see offensive reps as a backup to Zay Flowers, in a similar role.
