The Cleveland Browns recently held their rookie minicamp, and the star attraction was the brewing quarterback controversy between Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. Sanders endured the highest-profile free fall in the 2025 NFL Draft, and Gabriel was selected well before most expected.
Sanders was interviewed by Cleveland’s radio color commentator, Nathan Zegura, during minicamp, and his brother, Deion Sanders Jr., tweeted a heartfelt, faith-centered reaction.
Deion Sanders Jr. Tweets Strong Reaction to Shedeur Sanders’ Viral Comments
Shedeur endured arguably the most precipitous fall in NFL Draft history. He was in the conversation to be drafted with the No. 1 overall pick, then saw his stock do nothing but fall after the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.
He was exceptional in his final college season at Colorado, throwing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2024, but many questioned his arm strength and athleticism. Then, concerns about his attitude and poor pre-draft interviews didn’t help. Most pundits thought those questions could cause him to drop into the back half of the first round, but nobody saw a fifth-round slide coming.
He landed in Cleveland, but that came with Gabriel being drafted 50 spots ahead of him. Shedeur has a long way to go to earn the Browns’ starting job, but he’s already held up his promise of inspiring local kids by showing up at multiple high schools once he got to Cleveland.
With rookie minicamp in the books, Shedeur was interviewed by Zegura and asked about the reception he’s received from Browns fans.
His viral response was, “It’s been extremely well, I would say. I feel like the Browns fans, they just want something to hope for, and they’ve been wanting it so long, finally, I’m here to change that. I’m here to actually give what they want.”
His brother responded with a powerful message.
“I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it,… https://t.co/UJda6zEQV3

Deion Jr. tweeted, “I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.” Mark 11:23-24″
Shedeur’s comments could have come across as arrogant or cocky, qualities needed in a quarterback, but Deion Jr.’s were strong. Shedeur will need the mindset that Deion Jr. referenced from his biblical passage to surpass three other quarterbacks and secure the Cleveland starting job.
The Browns traded for Kenny Pickett and brought back Joe Flacco before drafting Shedeur and Gabriel. The team hasn’t released an unofficial depth chart yet, but he’s slotted as the fourth option on many sites.
Despite the low depth chart ranking, Shedeur will be a focus of the media until he does something to prove himself on the field. Given Cleveland’s quarterback situation, it could be a while before he gets that chance.
