‘So Proud of U Man’ — Deion Sanders Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Tyrann Mathieu as Former Chiefs Star Retires From NFL

After Tyrann Mathieu’s shocking retirement, Deion Sanders shared a heartfelt message welcoming the former Chiefs star to life after football.

With less than 50 days for the start of a new NFL season, the offseason is in its final stages. However, shocking announcements are no less common, with the latest arriving courtesy of the New Orleans Saints. After Derek Carr’s surprising retirement earlier in the summer, veteran Tyrann Mathieu is calling it quits right as training camp gets underway.

With over a decade of experience in the league, Mathieu cemented himself as one of the best safeties in the entire NFL, becoming a member of some legendary teams and winning a Super Bowl. Now, as he moves into the next phase of his life, he received well-wishes from the entire football world, including the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes and a certified NFL legend, Deion Sanders.

Deion Sanders Welcomes Tyrann Mathieu To Life After Football

Mathieu had one of the most memorable careers in the league after coming in as a third-round pick in 2013. A turnover machine, he earned three Pro Bowl and four All-Pro selections over tenures with the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

He was also a huge part of the Chiefs’ team that won Super Bowl 54, the franchise’s first with Patrick Mahomes. He then signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2022.

Earning a spot on the 2010s All-Decade Team, Mathieu has cemented his legacy as one of the best safeties of his generation.

But, after three seasons with the Saints, the 33-year-old wasn’t looking to continue anymore, announcing his retirement with a heartfelt message on Instagram. “As I hang up my cleats, I’m filled with gratitude as I close this chapter of my life and officially retire from the game that’s shaped me in every way.”

Trying to encapsulate his entire journey on the gridiron, Mathieu wrote about his experiences as a football player and the many life lessons the sport imparted to him.

“From my first snap in college to my final play in the NFL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing. Football gave me purpose, discipline, and memories that will stay with me forever. But more than anything, it gave me a community.”

Then, he wanted to thank the people who had made his journey so memorable, and as he called it, gave him strength at his darkest times. From teammates to coaches, and most importantly, the fans, Mathieu’s message was as poetic as it was beautiful.

“To every coach who believed in me, every teammate who battled beside me, and every fan who showed up, cheered, and rode with me through the highs and lows, thank you. You gave me strength when I needed it most, and your love carried me farther than I ever imagined. I hope I made you proud out there.”

After spending over a decade in the spotlight, he’s finally calling it quits in his own way. However, the veteran safety also made it perfectly clear that it wasn’t “goodbye”, and he was gearing up for a “next chapter.”

To welcome him on that journey was a player who has perhaps perfected the art of moving on to the next chapter better than any other player in the history of the NFL. Sanders went from Hall of Famer to multiple avenues in the entertainment industry before returning to his football roots as a head coach at the high school and collegiate level.

While the next chapter of his journey remains unclear, Mathieu was immediately welcomed into retirement by Sanders, who wrote, “Naw Legend it’s more gas in that tank than it is on the NFL field! Wow. I’m so proud of u man. You did the doggone thang. Well done my brother well done! Love man”

A widely respected figure across the NFL, it might not be long before Mathieu’s next endeavor comes to the public limelight. But until then, Happy Retirement to a genuine legend of the game!
