Deion Sanders’ latest health update arrived in a deeply personal form: a candid conversation filmed by his oldest son and shared on social media, in which Karrueche Tran explained why she stayed with him through his cancer battle.
Deion Sanders Offered Girlfriend Karrueche Tran Out Amid Cancer Recovery
The clip, recorded after the 58-year-old Colorado head coach was declared cured of an aggressive form of bladder cancer in 2025, shows Sanders openly acknowledging he gave Tran permission to walk away as his surgeries and complications mounted. Instead, the 37-year-old actress describes choosing to remain at his side, framing that decision as both a matter of character and faith.
In the video, Tran recalls that Sanders explicitly told her she did not have to stay in the relationship after his diagnosis and subsequent operations. She makes clear she never seriously considered leaving, emphasizing that doing so would have felt like abandoning him at his lowest point.
“That’s not the type of person I am. If I dipped I would’ve taken the easy way out,” she says, describing how difficult it was to watch him struggle but stressing that “we made it work” despite the emotional and physical toll of his treatment.
The exchange unfolds as Sanders’ eldest son films the couple speaking casually about why they believe they were brought together. At one point, Tran explains her perspective on their partnership.
“That’s why I’m here,” she tells Sanders. He immediately counters with a joke about her motives, replying, “Yeah to enjoy the fruits,” suggesting she is there to share in the benefits of his success. Tran quickly corrects that narrative, pushing back on any implication that she is with him for material reasons.

“I didn’t say that,” she responds. “To help you live life and experience new things. ’Cause that’s what I love too. To travel and do different things. We meet halfway.” Her comments echo earlier remarks in which she said she believes part of her role is to help Sanders embrace life more fully after his health scare, from traveling to trying new experiences together.
Sanders then turns the conversation toward faith, asking Tran directly why she thinks they were paired.
“Why else did God bring you to me?” he asks. Tran answers in spiritual terms. “Because he knew that we needed each other,” she replies. “Especially last year. He knew that we were able to tackle that together and even though you told me you don’t have to stay you can leave. You don’t have to deal with it.”
Her answer links their relationship to the period when Sanders underwent bladder reconstruction surgery and later dealt with additional procedures, including another operation related to blood clots.

Sanders confirms that he tried to give her an “out” as his medical issues escalated. “I said you didn’t sign up for this,” he recalls during the conversation. “This ain’t what you signed up for. You aint sign up for me to go through this. I would not doubt you, ridicule you or be upset if you check out.”
The video also notes that Sanders’ son, Deion Jr., was by his father’s side throughout much of the ordeal, something Tran acknowledges as part of the “little team” that supported him during multiple hospital stays. Sanders has said his cancer experience prompted a shift in mindset, explaining in separate comments that the diagnosis and recovery “triggered something” in him to start living and enjoying life more intentionally.
With both Sanders and Tran now speaking publicly about that choice, the conversation offers a rare, unfiltered look at how Coach Prime’s cancer battle tested and, by their account, strengthened their relationship.
