A recent report claimed Deion Sanders wants his son, Shedeur Sanders, to be selected by the New York Giants with the third overall pick. Shedeur has become the betting favorite to go No. 3, but Deion is now pushing back, saying he never made that comment.
“Prime Time” has always been a polarizing figure, going back to his Florida State days, and he’s stirred things up more than once during Shedeur’s pre-draft process. It wouldn’t be surprising if he said something like what was reported—but this time, Deion is calling it out as another lie.
Deion Sanders Sternly Calls Out Report of Wanting the Giants to Draft His Son
The Giants have been stuck in quarterback limbo since Eli Manning retired after the 2019 season. Daniel Jones didn’t live up to his sixth-overall pick hype, making the playoffs once in five and a half seasons before getting released last November.
Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock finished out the season, and New York added veteran Jameis Winston in free agency. But the team still needs a true QB1—and Shedeur could be that guy after reviving two dormant college programs.
He led Jackson State to back-to-back SWAC titles, then followed his dad to Colorado in 2023. After a rocky first year, the Buffaloes bounced back in 2024, finishing 9-3 in the regular season. Oddsmakers now have Shedeur as the favorite to be picked at No. 3. And a report surfaced saying Deion had told someone, “Let’s hope it’s New York,” when asked about his son’s future.
PFSN’s latest mock draft backs that up. Analyst Ben Rolfe has the Giants selecting Shedeur, writing, “They have the pieces of a developing roster and need a quarterback to take the spotlight. Sanders is the quarterback built to take that spotlight and shine. He may not make the ‘wow’ plays Ward does, but he is the safer projection to the NFL as far as talent.”
With Winston in the building, Shedeur likely wouldn’t have to start right away—giving him time to learn the system. On paper, it sounds like a great situation. But Deion says the quote is fake.
The Hall of Fame corner replied on Instagram to a post with the quote, writing, “THIS IS A LIE! We’re thankful for whatever God chooses for them.”

So, if Deion did say he hopes Shedeur ends up in New York, he’s now walking it back. All signs still point to the Giants taking Sanders on night one of the 2025 NFL Draft—but Deion clearly doesn’t want it to seem like he’s influencing the pick.
