The Washington Commanders are betting big on Jayden Daniels’ incredible rookie campaign and have gone all-in this offseason to supercharge the roster for a Super Bowl run.
The Commanders reached the NFC Championship game last season and have now added a two-time Super Bowl champion in Von Miller to complete the job this season. Deebo Samuel, who was traded to the Commanders earlier this offseason, is excited about Miller’s arrival in DC as the All-Pro receiver eyes his maiden ring.
How Did Deebo Samuel React to Von Miller Joining the Washington Commanders?
The Commanders have heavily invested in the defense this offseason, bringing in Javon Kinlaw, Deatrich Wise, Jonathan Jones, Will Harris, and now Miller. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Washington signed the 14-year veteran edge rusher on a one-year deal, but the terms of the contract are yet to be finalized.
Shortly after the news broke, Miller confirmed the agreement on Instagram, sharing a carousel featuring a clip from the movie Paid in Full, in which the characters talk about D.C. being ready for them. He also shared an edited picture of himself in the Commanders’ uniform alongside a picture of former Washington defensive back Champ Bailey.
“DC… What’s good??,” he captioned the post.

Samuel, who is also in Washington for just one year, shared his excitement in one word, commenting, “Leghhhhoooo.”

What Are the Details of Samuel and Miller’s Careers?
Samuel was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 2019 Draft and was a consistent contributor for the franchise over the years. He was traded to the Commanders in March for a fifth-round pick. Washington guaranteed his $17 million base salary for the 2025 season. However, it’s the final year of his contract, and an extension is unlikely for now.

Meanwhile, Miller was the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and spent his first 10 and a half seasons with the Denver Broncos. He was named Defensive Rookie of the Year and a first-team All-Pro three times in Denver. Miller was named MVP of Super Bowl 50 after collecting 2.5 sacks and six total tackles against the Carolina Panthers.
After being traded midway through the 2021 season, Miller won another Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams. Between the two teams, he had 9.5 sacks in the regular season and added four during Los Angeles’s playoff run.
Miller signed a six-year, $120 million deal with the Buffalo Bills the following offseason and had eight sacks in 11 games before tearing his ACL. The injury has sent Miller’s career on a sharp decline, as he was highly ineffective in 2023 and posted just six sacks last season.
He doesn’t have to be the guy in Washington, as Wise and Dorance Armstrong are the projected starting defensive ends, but Miller should find a solid role in the Commanders’ defense.
