What Claim Did Commanders WR Deebo Samuel Refute?

A post by NFL aggregator ML Football read:

“Pro Bowl WR Deebo Samuel says his MOTHER was not around growing up because she got caught up in the “street life” and he nearly ended up homeless. Deebo had to move in with his grandmother until he was a freshman and she got sick, he nearly became homeless, ‘I had nowhere to live. Nowhere to go. No one, I felt like, I could turn to.'”

The post further added that his stepmother, Precious, took him in, with the wide receiver crediting her for saving his life..

While some parts of the narrative might be true, Samuel called out the inaccuracy he noticed.

“Never almost ended up homeless who making this false narratives,” Samuel wrote on X.

Many fans also call out the misinformation along with Samuel. Some urged the NFL star not to take the account seriously, even asking him to sue those involved for spreading false news.

“These accounts are terrible,” one fan wrote.

“People are delusional 🤦🏻‍♀️,” another fan said.

“He just makes s**t up for clicks and engagement if I was you I would sue him just to be petty,” a user suggested.

Samuel Has Previously Thanked Precious for Saving His Life

The quotes from the post date back to Samuel’s 2021 interview with GQ.

With the San Francisco 49ers at the time, Samuel gave a detailed summary of his life, mentioning both his mother, Felicia, and Precious. Admitting that Felicia wasn’t able to provide for him, Samuel named Precious as the one who saved his life and career.

“My grades weren’t the best, but she clamped down on me and forced me over the finish line. I really think she saved my life. S**t, she raised me.”

And while he did say that he had “nowhere to go” or “nowhere to live,” Samuel followed it up by saying that Precious took him in. He credited her for helping him get to college. However, he never used the word homeless in the article.

A South Carolina native, Samuel went to Chapman High School before entering the University of South Carolina’s football program. A No. 36 overall pick in 2019, Samuel spent his first years with the 49ers before being traded to the Commanders.
