Barstool’s Dave Portnoy Mocks Mike McDaniel After Dolphins HC’s Awkward Comments Go Viral Following 0–2 Start

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel was mocked by Barstool's Dave Portnoy following McDaniel's bizarre postgame comments after yesterday's loss to the Patriots.

Things are not going well right now for the Miami Dolphins, who remain winless after the first two weeks of the 2025 NFL regular season following Sunday afternoon’s 33-27 loss at Hard Rock Stadium to the visiting New England Patriots.

This came on the heels of their 33-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts the week prior at Lucas Oil Stadium, in which they were bested in nearly every facet of the game and were completely overmatched.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, who is feeling his seat begin to grow warmer with each passing day, drew immense criticism for his postgame comments that left many wondering how much longer he’ll remain in place.

Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel Was Mocked for His Postgame Comments

Following the loss, McDaniel offered a rather bizarre take on what he felt transpired on the field against the Patriots.

“That’s kind of where the frustration lies for me is it wasn’t deciding that cost us, or a late play call, which that happens at times,” McDaniel said. “But this was not one of those times. I got the play call in, but I need to do a better job supervising the orchestration within our multiple personnel groups.

“To win games, you have to win the game and not lose the game, honestly. And that is how you lose the game. You’re moving the ball down the field, you’re first-and-10 and then you find yourself at second-and-20. That was critical.”

Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports had a simple caption on his X account regarding McDaniel’s comments.

“Dead man walking alert,” he wrote.

However, McDaniel directly addressed his job security, saying that he wasn’t worried about it.

“I think if I worry about my job security, I won’t be doing my job, and I think that inherently is against all things that I believe in,” he said. “I’ve never felt entitled to any sort of – I’ve never felt entitled to this position, and it’s very important for me to spend all of my waking hours worrying about exactly how to do my job and all the residual effects of that are there’s a lot of people affected.”

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa finished the game having completed 26 of 32 passing attempts for 315 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

The Dolphins have no choice — not to mention little time — to regroup on a short week ahead of what is now a critical Week 3 Thursday night matchup against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium.
