Davante Adams Issues Strong Warning to Jaguars Rookie Travis Hunter Against Pursuing 2-Way Role in NFL

Rams wideout Davante Adams issued a warning to Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter about playing long-term on both sides of the ball.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are hoping for big things from rookie Travis Hunter, who has been listed as the club’s starting wide receiver and backup cornerback on their recently released depth chart.

While Hunter is intent on playing both sides of the ball, this could lead to potential injury concerns in the eyes of Los Angeles Rams wideout Davante Adams.

Davante Adams Is Concerned About Potential Injury Troubles for Jaguars Rookie Travis Hunter

While appearing on ‘The Pivot’ podcast, Adams expressed his concern that Hunter could be setting himself up for injury problems in his career.

“I don’t think it’s possible to do, for real, not at a high level and then go in there,” he said when asked about the possibility of being able to handle heavy workloads on both sides of the ball. “It’s hard enough to go cover a punt and be on one side, you know. I’ve even done it, and I’m not acting like I’m on kickoff or punts.”

“You got your guys and you see the yardage… that’s a lot of mileage, man,” Adams continued. “I’m not even concerned so much if he can do it over the course of the game or a season, but it’s like, how long will his career be if he plays that many snaps? All you’re doing is doubling your risk for injury, and I don’t wish any of that on him.

“I hope he can play an injury-free season and go ball out. But this is the reality. It’s already 100% injury guarantee.”

The NFL is an extremely rough sport, and injuries are just a way of life. Every team will have players who are too banged up to take the field, or who otherwise choose to play through various ailments.

Adams’ concern about Hunter is well-placed, as doubling one’s workload would also understandably lead to an increased risk of injury.

Hunter’s arrival in Jacksonville has already been highly publicized, as he was the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft as a Heisman Trophy winner.

But there have been few players in NFL history who have been able to successfully play long-term on both sides of the ball. While Hunter was able to do so at the college level, the NFL is a completely different animal and style of play.

Hopefully, Hunter can maintain his health and become a solid contributor for the Jaguars during his career.
