Rams Star Davante Adams Sends Bold Message to Rest of NFL After $44 Million Move to Los Angeles

Davante Adams put everyone on notice during a recent interview, saying he's in top-notch form heading into his first year in Los Angeles.

Two disappointing seasons with the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders have led six-time Pro Bowler Davante Adams to the Los Angeles Rams. The 11-year NFL veteran joins Sean McVay’s squad on a two-year, $44 million deal.

Earlier this offseason, Jets management sat down with Adams’ longtime friend and former teammate, Aaron Rodgers, to inform the quarterback they would be heading in a different direction at the position.

New York’s poor — and arguably disrespectful, if reports are true — treatment of the 41-year-old turned Adams off and got the wheels turning on a potential move, which ultimately led him to Los Angeles.

Adams Doesn’t Expect Drop-Off as Father Time Creeps In

After an exhilarating NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, Adams has struggled to find stability in recent years. That said, there’s been no sign of a decline for the 32-year-old wideout. Since leaving Green Bay, Adams has played just two full seasons — both of which saw him surpass 1,000 receiving yards.

The 6-foot-1, shifty route-runner spoke with the New York Times about what lies ahead in his career. Reporter Michael Silver highlighted how Adams believes improved health and team stability will help him maintain production similar to 2023 — if not better.

Adams emphasized that he’s still in his prime: “Well, I think that’s a great question — and I think I can tell you that my prime has been since 2018, and I truly feel like I’m playing equal or better ball. I haven’t lost any speed — which, you know, I didn’t come into the league as a burner, so people weren’t expecting a 4.2 (40-yard dash) to turn into a 4.5.

“I came in running high 4.4s, and I’m still hitting those same speeds. Whether it’s GPS data or if I lined up for a 40 right now, I’d probably run it faster than I did at 21. And, obviously, the proof is in the pudding. I don’t need to tell you what I can or can’t still do.”

Adams believes there’s no doubt he can still produce at — or above — the level he did a decade ago when he came into the NFL as an unproven second-round pick. Adams was chosen 53rd overall out of Fresno State by the Packers in 2014.

Adams still managed to rack up 1,063 receiving yards over 14 games split between the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets in 2024. He also remains a consistent red zone threat. who has recorded eight or more touchdowns in each of the past five seasons, dating back to his time in Green Bay.

If Adams is right about his form, teaming up with Puka Nacua and Matthew Stafford could make the Rams a serious contender for another deep Super Bowl run.
