Chase Young and Joe Burrow are seemingly top-5 pick locks in 2020, while Justin Herbert and others are darkhorse top picks in 2020. Outside of Young and Burrow, there aren’t many players you could say will surely be a top-5 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. There was a time when Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was, but an ankle injury and a serious hip injury has created some doubt on where Tagovailoa will be selected.
When you gander at many of the mock drafts out there, you will see that Joe Burrow is the consensus favorite to be selected with the first overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals. Also, you will see that the best player in the 2020 draft class, edge rusher Chase Young, is mocked to the New York Giants in a majority of those same draft projections. While almost everyone is in unison with the first two selections, after that, it is a free-for-all.
Before we take a look at three players that are darkhorse NFL draft top-5 picks in 2020, let’s take a look at the current draft order. Doing this will provide context on which players are likely to join Burrow and Young as top-5 selections.
The current draft order is…
- Cincinnati Bengals
- New York Giants
- Washington Redskins
- Miami Dolphins
- Atlanta Falcons
The Washington Redskins team needs are quite clear. Offensive tackle, cornerback and wide receiver are their biggest holes. The Miami Dolphins have been on the search for a high-level successor to Dan Marino for nearly 20 years, so it is safe to assume that quarterback is their number one priority. The Atlanta Falcons need help at almost every position on the defensive side of the ball and despite investing two first-round draft picks on the offensive line in the 2019 NFL draft, the unit remains a huge question mark.
So, if Joe Burrow is going first overall to the Cincinnati Bengals and Chase Young is going to the New York Giants with the 2nd pick, what other players will be selected in the top-5 picks of the 2020 NFL draft?
