D’Andre Swift Injury Update: Latest on the Bears RB and His Week 3 Availability vs. Cowboys

Chicago Bears running back D'Andre Swift was listed on the team's injury report ahead of Week 3. What's the latest on him?

Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift is in his second season with the Bears after playing for the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles.

Swift nearly had a 1,000-yard rushing season for the Bears behind quarterback Caleb Williams in 2024. Bears head coach Ben Johnson knows he has a powerful back who can carry the load when necessary.

But it was concerning to see Swift unable to go full throttle in the Bears’ practice throughout this past week.

What’s Happening with D’Andre Swift?

According to the team’s injury report, Swift was limited in practice on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday due to a quad injury. He is listed as questionable for the Week 3 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

So far this season, Swift has rushed for 116 yards in two games with one touchdown.

In his six-year career, Swift has 3,804 rushing yards and 30 rushing touchdowns. He also has eight touchdown catches from his time with the Lions, Eagles, and Bears.

Heading into the Week 3 contest with the Cowboys, PFSN’s Cameron Sheath offered some fantasy football feedback about Swift. Sheath put Swift in the “buy” category.

“The vibes around the Chicago Bears are miserable after two humiliating divisional losses to open the season,” Sheath wrote. “Both losses were embarrassing for different reasons, but Ben Johnson’s start in the windy city has been disappointing to say the least.

“That being said, it was always going to take some time for the offense to adapt to its new head coach, and the Bears should improve as the year progresses,” Sheath wrote. “D’Andre Swift wasn’t a popular fantasy pick ahead of the season, and his 116 total rushing yards over his first two games won’t have changed managers’ minds.”

Sheath added that while Chicago’s Week 2 blowout loss shouldn’t be a frequent occurrence, more favorable game scripts could open up increased rushing chances. He also said Swift has emerged as the “clear lead back” in an offense expected to improve significantly in the months ahead.

If Swift is not available at full speed for Chicago, look for Roschon Johnson and Kyle Monangal to get most of the carries. Ben Johnson, of course, is hopeful his RB1 will be able to take the field against Dallas.

Roschon Johnson was drafted by the Bears in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Texas. In three-plus seasons with Chicago, Johnson has 136 carries for 502 yards with eight touchdowns and 50 catches for 313 yards. In 2023, he led all Bears rookies in carries, rushing yards, catches, receiving yards, touchdowns, and scrimmage yards.
