Aaron Rodgers has been heavily linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason, given the gaping QB1 shaped hole in their roster and his free agent status.
However, Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino is uncertain that Rodgers will return to the field at all. But if he does, Marino opines that Rodgers still has the chops to succeed.
Dan Marino Discusses Aaron Rodgers’ Fit With the Steelers
Marino knows a thing or two about NFL longevity, having anchored the field general position well into his late 30s with the Miami Dolphins. The legendary quarterback recently appeared on Pittsburgh radio station 93.7 The Fan and said that he doesn’t know if Rodgers will want to play for the Steelers as he gets older.
“I still think Aaron has some game, you know? He does. He can throw it as good as anybody that ever has thrown the football,” Marino asserted. “If his mind’s into it and he’s ready to go and that works, I mean I don’t think that would be an issue with the Steelers.”
“But, you’ve got to have someone who really wants to play there, and he’s getting older, so I don’t know what his mindset is. But, he does still have talent.”
The Steelers have a significant vacuum at the quarterback position right now, with sixth-round rookie Will Howard and career backup Mason Rudolph expected to battle for the top spot on the depth chart as it stands.
93.7 The Fan also shared some snaps from the Steelers’ ongoing Organized Team Activities (OTAs), including some pictures of Howard and Rudolph in action.
Pittsburgh has seen some drastic turnover this offseason, especially at the skill positions. The Steelers lost Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Najee Harris, and George Pickens, and brought in DK Metcalf and Kaleb Johnson.
With these changes, some fans think it’s best to start Howard from Week 1 rather than going with the uninspiring Rudolph.

Sixth-round picks don’t always pan out. However, it’s not tough to see Howard’s potential. He has a great frame that scouts and evaluators dream about (6’4″ and 236 lbs at the combine). Plus, he has high levels of collegiate productivity on his resume (over 4,200 total yards and 42 total touchdowns as a senior at Ohio State).
However, if the quarterback situation does not sort itself out, it might not be the end of the world for the iconic franchise. The Steelers would likely wind up with a high pick in next year’s draft. That draft is expected to be one of the deeper ones for quarterbacks in recent years.
As of now, current names expected to declare for next year’s draft include Arch Manning out of Texas, LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, and South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers.
