The Dallas Cowboys are hoping for a much brighter season in 2025 under first-time head coach Brian Schottenheimer. While they’ve already made significant offseason moves offensively, PFSN is predicting another play in free agency, this time on the defensive side of the ball.

Dallas Cowboys Expected To Add Much-Needed Depth in the Secondary
Earlier in the offseason, the Cowboys made a major trade for out-of-favor Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. They needed to find another star playmaker to complement CeeDee Lamb, and got one with plenty of big-play ability, in exchange for a third-round pick.
Running back has been a concern for Dallas, too, but the group has gone through a complete overhaul in 2025. 2024 starter Rico Dowdle is now with the Carolina Panthers, and Ezekiel Elliott is gone, too.
Dallas added two rookies, fifth-rounder Jaydon Blue and seventh-rounder Phil Mafah, while bringing in two experienced free agents on short-term deals, with Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. It’s an entirely new group, and one the franchise is hoping solves another key issue from the previous season.
On the defensive side, availability at corner has been an issue. Trevon Diggs has had season-ending injuries in back-to-back years, both on the same knee. He played just two games in 2023 before a torn ACL ended his season, and played in 11 games in 2024 before he was sidelined through surgery for the rest of the year.
Daron Bland had an exceptional start to his pro career, with 14 interceptions through his first two seasons. However, he too missed significant playing time in 2024, missing the first 10 games of the season with a Lisfranc injury in his foot.
Even the rookie addition Shavon Revel Jr., whom the Cowboys selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft, is coming off a torn ACL.
In the latest free agency piece, PFSN suggests Dallas should sign Kendall Fuller, who most recently played with the Miami Dolphins.
Fuller was drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft by the Washington Commanders. He spent two seasons there before he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, in the exchange that sent quarterback Alex Smith to Washington.
Fuller went on to win Super Bowl 54 with the Chiefs before he headed back to Washington for another four years. In his nine years in the league, Fuller has recorded 16 interceptions and 57 pass breakups.

He was signed to a two-year, $15 million contract with the Miami Dolphins in 2024 and was released after his first season with the team.
Cowboys Need Depth to Ensure Availability
With so many long-term injuries affecting their defensive backs, the Cowboys need to overcompensate with additional depth.
Fuller is headed for his 10th season of football, should he sign to play in 2025, bringing valuable experience to a franchise hoping to compete in a heavily stacked NFC East.
The Dallas secondary needs to be able to contain AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel, and Malik Nabers with the New York Giants. The whole division is filled with elite-level wide receivers, and lacking starting-caliber corners is a surefire way to put your defense in a bind.
The Cowboys have added corner Kaiir Elam, who was a first-round draft pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2022 class. They have Andrew Booth, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings, and Caelen Carson, who they drafted in the fifth round of the 2024 draft.
