Dak Prescott had a miserable 2024 season. He got off to a slow start before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9.
He returned to the field during the Dallas Cowboys offseason program and recently spoke to reporters about his return to the field.
Dak Prescott ‘Pretty Much Can Do It All’ in Return From Hamstring Injury
Dallas was 3-4 heading into Week 9, with Prescott posting 1,845 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions to that point. He threw for 133 yards and a score before getting injured against the Atlanta Falcons, and the offense lost any juice that it had.
In the shortened season, Prescott finished No. 30 in PFSN’s QB+ metric. This was the worst grade he’s ever had in PFSN’s QB+ database. He finished with a -0.05 EPA/DB (30th), a 32.1% third-down conversion rate (32nd), and 6.5 nYPA (22nd). He was particularly bad from a clean pocket (0.11; 31st) but wasn’t much better when pressured (-0.40; 25th).
Cooper Rush led the Cowboys down the stretch, but the offense finished No. 23 in PFSN’s Offense+ metric and had two forgettable performances to end the season. Rush finished No. 36 in the QB+ metric, so the Cowboys dealt with consistently poor quarterback play.
Dallas went 7-10 in 2024 and had a fairly quiet offseason leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft. They selected Alabama’s Tyler Booker with the 12th overall pick, and completely passed on the receiver position in the draft. CeeDee Lamb called for the team to add another pass catcher, but the Cowboys waited until after the draft to do that.
The team traded a 2026 third-round pick for George Pickens, and is hoping that the former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver can be the right complement for Lamb. Lamb was named first-team All-Pro for the 2023 season after totaling 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns while leading the NFL with 135 catches.
Prescott started every game that year, but with the quarterback only playing eight games in 2024, Lamb’s numbers dropped to 101 receptions, 1,194 yards, and six touchdowns.
Dallas recently began its OTA schedule, and Prescott addressed the media. CBS News Texas reporter Briana Aldridge posted a picture of the Cowboys’ quarterback speaking to reporters.

Aldridge tweeted, “Dak Prescott talking about being back on the field, ‘I feel good.’ #Cowboys @CBSNewsTexas @CBSSportsTexas”
Pro Football Talk’s Charean Williams broke down Prescott’s comments. In that media session, Prescott said, “Pretty much can do it all. Feel good. Yeah, I think I’m just not cleared for contact, which we’ve got a while for that anyways. Yeah, I’m out there in the team activities. Feel good. Just trying to stay that way. Yeah, feeling great.”
Luckily for Prescott, quarterbacks don’t deal with a lot of contact until game days. The Cowboys’ first preseason game is set for August 9th against the Los Angeles Rams, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Prescott didn’t see any action that night.
He will see contact during the team’s regular season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. Dallas opening at Philadelphia was an issue for some Cowboys reporters and fans, but Prescott will have to be at the top of his game when he faces the Super Bowl champions.
