Curtis Samuel’s Contract Details: WR Signs 3-Year Deal With Buffalo Bills

The wide receiver market has been going at a steady pace in free agency, and Curtis Samuel is the most recent free agent to find a new home.

Samuel is heading to Buffalo to play with Josh Allen and the Bills, and he fills a need on the team. Buffalo lost Gabe Davis to the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this week, and the receiver position was an area the team needed to improve on.

With the Commanders last season, Samuel had 62 catches for 613 yards and four touchdowns.

The Bills need more guys who can make plays with the ball in their hands, and Samuel definitely fills that void.

Full Contract Details for Curtis Samuel

At only 27 years old, Samuel is still just entering the prime of his career. Wide receivers have been paid a lot this offseason, as Calvin Ridley just got a four-year, $92 million deal. While he isn’t making that much money, Samuel is still getting good with a three-year, $30 million deal.

This is a very good deal for the Bills. With only the $15 million guaranteed, this is a very friendly contract for a team that has had to get rid of a lot of players just to get below the cap.

Samuel’s versatility is going to give him a lot of opportunities to make plays in Buffalo. Stefon Diggs is still a very good player, but he was banged up and not the same player down the stretch. Samuel is able to line up all over the field and can even line up in the backfield in certain formations.

The jet sweep and wide receiver screen will also be an area the team looks to use him.

Comparing Curtis Samuel’s Deal to Other WRs

The wide receiver position has been all over the place, as we have seen some surprising contracts. No one was expecting the Titans to sign Calvin Ridley, and then they offered him the monster contract.

Two receivers to take a look at when comparing Samuel’s contract include Gabe Davis and Darnell Mooney. Both of those guys received a three-year, $39 million deal.

Davis signed with the Jaguars, while Mooney signed with the Atlanta Falcons. Both of those players are just a couple of years younger than Samuel, and that accounts for the slight financial pay difference.
