Cowboys WR Depth Chart: Breaking Down Dallas’ New-Look Wide Receiver Room

It's almost been forgotten, but the Dallas Cowboys drastically remade the wide receiver position in the offseason. Now, they will find out if it will work.

The Micah Parsons trade has certainly stolen the headlines, but another controversial move by the Dallas Cowboys is flying under the radar. Dallas acquired wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round selection. The move was designed to give quarterback Dak Prescott another reliable target besides CeeDee Lamb and to spark the entire offense.

However, as is often the case in Dallas, how this bold gamble will pay off remains to be seen.

Who is in the Cowboys’ Receiver Room?

Who is Cee Dee Lamb?

CeeDee Lamb is undeniably one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. He is a dominant force who often carries the passing game almost by himself. Lamb is so skilled that he can beat man and press coverage, split double teams, and find seams in zone defenses even when opponents are focused on stopping him.

He possesses exceptional body control, soft hands, and remarkable spatial awareness. Whether he is working underneath, winning on the outside, or finding a soft spot in a zone, Lamb’s technique, ability, and production put him in a class of his own.

In five seasons, he has caught 496 passes for 6,339 yards and 38 touchdowns. He achieved this production despite Prescott missing significant time during two of those seasons.

The only thing Lamb has been missing is a legitimate running mate on the other side of the formation. That is where George Pickens comes in.

Who is George Pickens?

Depending on who you ask, Pickens is either a disruptive force or a talented player who just needs the right environment to thrive. For him, Pittsburgh was not that situation. Pickens repeatedly clashed with ownership and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

Despite his immense skill at the receiver position, he always seemed to be in the doghouse with the team and its fans. However, Cowboys general manager Jerry Jones clearly felt Pickens was worth the risk, even though he has only one season with more than 1,000 receiving yards.

Who Else Can Step Up for Dallas?

So far, the early signs are positive. According to a piece by ESPN’s Todd Archer, the new pairing is looking good. Pickens, Lamb, and Prescott have been quietly developing a strong rapport. That development is welcome news for Cowboys fans who just endured an offseason filled with drama that ended with them losing their best defensive player.

Beyond the top two, the Cowboys’ main receiver is Jalen Tolbert, who slots in as the third option. His performance has been underwhelming. Tolbert played on 76% of the Cowboys’ offensive snaps in the 2024-25 season and only averaged 4.6 targets per game. His role is not likely to increase in 2025-26.

The depth chart also includes KaVontae Turpin, who has a career total of 556 receiving yards, and Jonathan Mingo, who is on the injured reserve list. If the Lamb and Pickens pairing works out, the hope is that Dallas can field a top-tier offense capable of outscoring enough opponents to make everyone forget what they lost on the other side of the ball.
