Cowboys Legend Troy Aikman Calls Out Bill Polian for Involvement in Bill Belichick’s Hall of Fame Snub

One of the people who received heavy criticism for his role in Belichick not getting in was former NFL executive Bill Polian.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the legendary NFL HC Bill Belichick was not elected to the Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 2026. Throughout the NFL world, there were many heavy opinions on this decision from the voters, and there were also widespread calls for the group of voters to be updated/changed.

One of the people who received heavy criticism for his role in Belichick not getting in was former NFL executive Bill Polian.

Former NFL QB and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman Criticised Bill Polian Over His Vote

After the news about Belichick broke, more reports surfaced that Polian was a major reason Belichick did not get in. Allegedly, Polian reminded voters about “spygate” during the New England Patriots era as a main reason why Belichick should have to wait a year until he gets into the Hall of Fame.

After that report was made public, it emerged that Polian disagreed with those claims and was 95% sure he had voted for Belichick. Although it seems Polian thought that would make things better… it did not.

Of course, just like when the original Belichick news broke, confusion and irritation spread throughout the NFL world, and former Dallas Cowboys QB and NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman joined “The Musers” and spoke out against Polian after all the reports were out:

“A few days ago, I saw where Bill Polian said he was 95 percent certain he voted for Bill? What is that? If you can’t remember who you voted for, you shouldn’t be on the panel. Then he came back and said he’s 100 percent certain and it can be verified.”

Aikman added, “I’m not trying to pick on Bill; maybe he had a senior moment, I have no idea. But at least 11 people did not vote for him.”

Aikman raises a very understandable opinion about Polian’s vote. There are many good reasons why Belichick should have been voted in, but what Aikman is complaining about is is about the voting process in general.

The fact that Polian has any doubt at all about whether he voted for or against a person is unacceptable.

Belichick will get in the Hall of Fame at some point in his life, but being a first ballot Hall of Famer is something that can only occur in the first year of eligibility. Belichick deserved that title, but now there is a 0% chance it will happen. As Aikman lays out in his quote, this entire situation has created a larger dialogue with the Hall of Fame committee.
