Cowboys Predicted To Select 35.5-Sack Star in 2026 NFL Draft To Replace Micah Parsons’ Production

Cowboys projected to land 35.5-sack defensive star in 2026 NFL Draft as potential Micah Parsons production replacement.

Replacing former edge Micah Parsons’ production is not something most teams can realistically plan for, yet the Dallas Cowboys may soon have to think about life beyond their defensive centerpiece.

With long-term roster decisions on the horizon, the Cowboys could be forced to look toward the 2026 NFL Draft for answers. One collegiate pass rusher with 35.5 career sacks is already emerging as a strong candidate to step in and fill that massive defensive void.

Miami Edge Rusher Emerges as Cowboys Option to Replace Micah Parsons

The latest 2026 NFL Mock Draft by Jacob Infante of PFSN suggests that Akheem Mesidor of the Miami Hurricanes might land in Texas. And the reason is simple: the Cowboys would add him to replace former Cowboys star defender Parsons.

Edge Mesidor began his college career at West Virginia in 2020, recording 32 total tackles, including 20 solo stops, along with 6.0 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks across 10 games as a true freshman.

He followed that up in 2021 with 38 total tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks in 13 appearances, continuing to develop into a consistent presence along the Mountaineers’ defensive front before transferring to the Hurricanes.

In his first season with the Hurricanes in 2022, Mesidor posted 38 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 7.0 sacks, while also registering four pass breakups and one forced fumble in 12 games. His 2023 campaign was cut short by injury, limiting him to just 2 games in which he recorded 5 tackles and 1.0 sack.

Then he returned in 2024 to start 13 games, finishing with 32 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble, as he regained his disruptive form along the defensive line. But in comparison to Parsons, replacing him at the level of the National Football League is a very hard task, yet not impossible.

From the moment Parsons entered the league in 2021, he delivered elite-level production for the Cowboys’ defense. As a rookie, Parsons played 16 games and recorded 84 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 13.0 sacks, immediately leading the Cowboys in sacks on his way to winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

He followed that up in 2022 with another dominant campaign, starting all 17 games and finishing with 65 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, and 13.5 sacks, along with three forced fumbles.

In 2023, Parsons once again started all 17 games and posted 64 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, and 14.0 sacks, continuing his streak of double-digit sack seasons. His 2024 season was shortened to 13 games due to injury, yet he still recorded 43 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and 12.0 sacks, maintaining his disruptive presence off the edge.

Across his four seasons in the Cowboys from 2021 through 2024, Parsons totaled 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks, establishing himself as one of the most productive pass rushers in the NFL during that span.

Even if the Cowboys manage to land a 35.5 sack edge rusher in the 2026 NFL Draft, expecting immediate Parsons-level production would be unrealistic. Parsons has set an elite standard with his consistency and impact since entering the league, and matching that kind of dominance is far easier said than done. Any incoming prospect may help soften the blow. But truly replicating Parsons’ presence on defense will remain a massive challenge.
