As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for the 2025 NFL season, all eyes are on quarterback Dak Prescott and his recovery from a serious hamstring injury that sidelined him midway through last year. In a strong show of support, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones recently made a bold prediction about Prescott’s future, expressing full confidence in the veteran’s ability to return to elite form.
Despite missing the playoffs in 2024, the organization believes Prescott is still their best chance to compete for a championship. His progress in recovery, combined with his leadership, remains a critical focus for the team moving forward.

Stephen Jones Expects Dak Prescott to Return Better Than Ever
In a recent appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones made a bold statement regarding Prescott’s future.
“We feel like he’s gonna be a healthy, productive quarterback for us that will play at the very top of his game and give us a chance to win championships,” Jones said.

That confidence level aligns with the Cowboys’ decision to restructure Prescott’s contract last month. By converting $45.75 million of his salary into a signing bonus, the team created $36.6 million in cap space. This financial move, which reduced Prescott’s 2025 cap hit from $89.89 million to $53.29 million, highlights their intention to keep him as the team’s starting quarterback.
Cowboys Confident in Prescott’s Recovery and Leadership in 2025
Prescott suffered a partial hamstring avulsion during a Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, forcing him to miss the remainder of the 2024 season. He finished the year with 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in eight games.
Prescott provided a promising update on his recovery while speaking to reporters at the Cowboys’ Children’s Cancer Fund gala: “If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that,” he said, though he emphasized he’s taking a cautious approach with training camp months away.
The quarterback noted he’s reshaped his body to improve mobility and prevent future injuries and increase his mobility.
“Me playing my best, I’m mobile,” Prescott said. “Whether it’s actually running past the line of scrimmage or just scrambling making plays happen with my arm, that’s vital for me.”
Prescott has overcome major injuries before. He fractured his ankle during the 2020 season, then returned in 2021 to throw for 4,449 yards and 37 touchdowns. That history of resilience fuels optimism within the Cowboys organization that he’ll lead a strong 2025 campaign.
If he remains healthy, Jones’ prediction of a championship-contending quarterback may not be far off.
