The Dallas Cowboys had an offseason that’s tough to criticize, even if it got off to a slow start during the first wave of free agency. Following a strong draft class, the team traded for wide receiver George Pickens, bolstering a receiving corps that desperately needed help beyond CeeDee Lamb.
That naturally raises the question of whether another move could still be on the horizon before the season kicks off, especially with key players like DeMarvion Overshown and Trevon Diggs still recovering from injury. One name floated as a potential addition was Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey, but all indications suggest that such a move is unlikely to happen.
Cowboys’ Stephen Jones Shuts Down Trade Rumors for Jalen Ramsey
After facing heavy criticism for failing to follow through on promises of bold trades and roster upgrades, the Cowboys surprised many with a well-executed offseason. The team made strategic additions to give head coach Brian Schottenheimer and quarterback Dak Prescott a solid offense heading into the season.
However, the defense still raises concerns, especially with the secondary potentially starting the year without Trevon Diggs. Naturally, Ramsey’s name came up as a possible target, particularly after the veteran cornerback posted a cryptic message that many interpreted as a farewell to the Dolphins.
Still, Ramsey signed a three-year extension with Miami in 2024, making any exit this soon both contractually difficult and somewhat puzzling. While teams have shown interest in a potential trade, Dallas appears to be an unlikely destination.

When asked by reporters on June 3 about any deals still in play, the Cowboys’ executive vice president, Stephen Jones, said, “We don’t have anything that’s on the front burner.” As for Ramsey, he kept it brief: “No, he plays for the Dolphins.”
A move this year would leave the Dolphins with $49.45 million in dead cap. When it comes to the $72.3 million on Ramsey’s deal, $24.2 million is guaranteed, essentially locking him in for at least one more season in Miami. So while his post sparked questions, all signs point to him staying put.
Over the course of his career, Ramsey has been selected to the Pro Bowl seven times and named All-Pro three times. He also won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, one of the teams reportedly interested in bringing him back. In 2024, Ramsey played all 17 games for the Dolphins, recording two interceptions and 11 pass deflections.
No matter where Ramsey ends up, despite still being one of the league’s premier cornerbacks, Dallas is unlikely to be in the mix. And based on Jones’ comments, fans shouldn’t expect any big moves from the Cowboys before Week 1.
