Cowboys Sign 3-Time Pro Bowl EDGE After Overtime Win vs. Giants As Dallas Tries to Replace Micah Parsons

The Cowboys were looking for help as their pass rush lost Micah Parsons to the Packers. Jerry Jones has now finally signed a new player.

Ever since the Dallas Cowboys traded away Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, there has been some concern on how the Cowboys would treat their pass rush needs.

Dallas has spent time looking at a couple of players around the NFL world to see if they could fit into their plans. On Sunday, Cowboys owner-general manager Jerry Jones said after his team’s 40-37 overtime win against the New York Giants that they’d addressed that need.

Who Did The Cowboys Sign For Their Pass Rush?

The Cowboys made news after the game as Jones announced that the team had signed 11-year NFL veteran defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported the news on Sunday in a post on X.

Clowney played his first five seasons with the Houston Texans. He then followed that up with stops for the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, and Carolina Panthers.

“He’ll add some real depth,” Jones said after the game, according to Cowboys reporter Jon Machota, who covers the team for The Athletic. “He’s very credible. He’ll help us.”

He has 409 combined tackles, 272 solo tackles, 108 tackles for loss, and 139 quarterback hits in his long career. Clowney visited the Cowboys last week and wanted to wait until after Sunday’s 40-37 Dallas overtime win over the New York Giants to sign.

Without Parsons on defense, the Dallas pass rush has missed a player who can provide an immediate impact. Giants quarterback Russell Wilson riddled the Cowboys secondary for a 450-yard passing day, which means he had a lot of time in the pocket. With Clowney now on board, the Cowboys hope that he can fill the void.

How Is Parsons Doing In Green Bay?

As for Parsons, he’s already paid dividends for the Packers. Parsons made his presence felt last Thursday night, getting into the backfield to cause problems for Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. Green Bay won that game 27-18.

The split between Parsons and Dallas was not amicable in the least. Jones said that he believed that he had a handshake deal with Parsons on a new contract. But Parsons didn’t believe that happened and did not play in any Cowboys preseason games. In fact, Parsons was photographed lying down on a table along the Cowboys sidelines during preseason.

It was that, and the long contract situation between him and the Cowboys, that played a role in Jones dealing him to Green Bay.

With Clowney coming into Dallas at this time, he gives Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer another proven veteran to anchor the Dallas pass rush.
