ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter posted some data on X regarding what the Cowboys might have been willing to do around acquiring Crosby.

Schefter wrote, “The Cowboys were willing to offer a first- and second-round pick to the Raiders for Maxx Crosby but, logically and understandably, Las Vegas opted for the two first-round picks from the Ravens.”

National sports talk show host Zach Gelb, who is a Cowboys/NFL/college basketball studio host for Compass Media, posted an acquisition idea for Dallas: “So the Cowboys will sign Trey (Hendrickson).”

NFL Network National Insider Ian Rapoport, once the trade news went public, posted on X, “The #Cowboys and a few other teams were in it to the end. But when Baltimore went to two first-rounders, that sealed it.”

NFL Network reporter Jane Slater, who covers the Cowboys for the network, offered some additional thoughts on the Cowboys potentially getting Crosby.

“‘We would not give up two first rounders’ was what I reported this week per a team source and they stuck to it,” Slater wrote. “As one person familiar with the situation explained ‘we talked about a lot of things’ but the 2 1st rounders was just something they simply weren’t going to move off of. Dallas moves on.”

James Palmer, who is an NFL Insider for Bleacher Report and a co-host of “Scoop City” for The Athletic, had some details on what Dallas offered to get Crosby.

Palmer posted on X, “The #Cowboys made a very attractive offer for Maxx Crosby that included 1st rounder, 2 rounder and more I’m told. They started to feel today that it wasn’t going to be enough and they were right.”

Laurie Horesh, host of NFL Afters and a reporter for ESPN Australia & NZ and ESPN, posted on X, “It’s not that the Cowboys are going to get better production from 2 first round picks than Maxx Crosby. It’s what the Cowboys can do with both those firsts (trade back & accumulate) to re-tool a terrible defence you have to weigh. Cheap, young talent on DEF has to be landed”.

RJ Ochoa, manager and editor-in-chief of Blogging the Boys, which covers the Cowboys, had some additional thoughts about the deal. Ochoa posted on X, “Earl Thomas. Jamal Adams. Maxx Crosby. All players who were highly connected to the Cowboys that did not make it to Dallas after leaving the teams they were on when the rumors started.”

Marcus Mosher, who is a host of the “Locked on Cowboys” podcast, added some thoughts after Mosher reposted Ochoa’s post on X. Mosher posted himself: “And the Cowboys dodged huge bullets with those first two names. Will that be the case again?”

Finally, Dan Rogers, who says on X that he’s a manufacturing engineer, sometimes writer, sometimes podcaster, but “all the time Cowboys fan,” posted on X, “It feels like every veteran All-Pro Cowboys want really badly somehow end up in Baltimore. First, Earl Thomas. Then, Derrick Henry. And now, Maxx Crosby”.

So, there are a number of opinions around what the Cowboys didn’t do regarding Crosby. Jones will probably look at another option to help shore up his defensive front.
