The Dallas Cowboys finally made a splash in the 2025 offseason by trading for receiver George Pickens. The move will hopefully give new head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s offense a boost heading into 2025.
Another player who could upgrade the Dallas offense is Nick Chubb. The long-time Cleveland Brown is looking for a new team, and one Cowboys legend thinks he’d be a good fit in Dallas.
Dez Bryant Wants Cowboys To Sign Nick Chubb
The Dallas offense floundered after Dak Prescott went down with a Week 9 hamstring injury. Cooper Rush went 4-4 in his first extended action as a starter, however, the offense lost much of its potency without Prescott. The unit finished No. 23 in PFSN’s Offense+ metric and had two forgettable performances to end the season.
The team’s best offensive player, CeeDee Lamb, regressed without Prescott, posting 101 receptions, 1,194 yards, and six touchdowns last season. The Pickens trade will bring Lamb’s production back to where it should be, but the rushing attack was also abysmal in 2024.
Rico Dowdle led the team with 1,079 rushing yards and just two touchdowns, while Ezekiel Elliott led the team with three touchdowns but chipped in just 226 yards. Elliott was released before the end of the season, and Dowdle signed with the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason.
Dallas addressed the running back room by signing Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency. They also drafted Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah.
Williams never found his footing after a solid rookie season with the Denver Broncos, but is slated to be the Cowboys’ featured back in 2025. He totalled 513 yards and four rushing touchdowns, while adding 52 catches and 346 receiving yards last year.
Sanders was consistently productive back when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he fell off a cliff once he signed with the Carolina Panthers. After a Pro Bowl 2022 where he rushed for 11 touchdowns and nearly 1,300 yards, Sanders produced back-to-back forgettable years in Carolina, where he totalled just 637 yards and three scores on the ground.
Blue was a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and rushed for 730 yards and eight touchdowns last year. He also added 42 catches, 368 yards, and six scores through the air. Mafah was taken in the seventh round and totalled 1,115 yards and eight touchdowns last year at Clemson.
The Cowboys have cheaply added to their rushing attack, but team legend Dez Bryant wants more. The former receiver wants Dallas to sign Chubb and posted a GIF of a vicious Chubb stiff arm on X.
Since we are asking for a lot.. just here me out as well 👀 https://t.co/xVzp4elAAO pic.twitter.com/iHEU2QRfkK

Bryant tweeted, “Since we are asking for a lot.. just here me out as well.”
Chubb was one of the more dominant ball carriers earlier in his career. He had four straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2019 to 2022. Chubb was one of the more durable backs in the NFL, routinely getting over 200 touches in his first five years in Cleveland.
However, a brutal knee injury cut his 2023 season short in Week 2. He returned mid-way through last season, and posted 332 yards and three touchdowns in just eight games.
The Browns did not re-sign Chubb after the 2024 season, and the four-time Pro Bowler is still looking for a new home.
Bryant apparently isn’t the only one in Dallas who wants the Cowboys to pursue Chubb. Josina Anderson recently tweeted about fans calling local Dallas sports radio shows discussing the former Brown.
Meanwhile local Dallas radio station @1053thefan was just discussing fans saying now that the #Cowboys should pursue either RBs Nick Chubb or Breece Hall….

Chubb would be another cheap addition to Dallas’ offense, but does he have anything left in the tank after suffering the injury? The Cowboys will also have to weigh whether it makes sense to bring in another veteran after signing two and drafting two rookie ball carriers.
