Cowboys, Eagles, Dolphins, and Packers Floated as Free-Agency Landing Spots for 5-Time Pro Bowler

Four NFL playoff contenders have been linked with the signing of a Super Bowl-winning five-time Pro Bowler as the 2025 season draws ever nearer.

With teams across the league taking to the practice field for preseason training camp, a host of talented players remain without a home for 2025. With the bulk of team-building already taken care of, veteran additions can often prove the final piece of the jigsaw for contending teams.

According to PFSN’s Jacob Infante, one such veteran should attract plenty of suitors, with four playoff contenders named potential landing spots.

Four Teams Named as Potential Suitors for Super Bowl Winner

While all 32 NFL head coaches will claim confidence in their rosters, all 32 would be interested in adding one or two more talented players if possible. According to Infante, the Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins are two teams that should be looking to add talent, as well as NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.

One player who should be of interest to all four teams, says Infante, is five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

“Stephon Gilmore turns 35 years old in September, so it’s no surprise that he’s hardly the Defensive Player of the Year-caliber player he once was. However, the five-time Pro Bowler has bounced around the league the last few seasons as a stopgap starting cornerback.

“A reunion with the Cowboys could be in the cards, seeing as though their projected starter alongside Trevon Diggs is currently Kaiir Elam. Other than that, there are plenty more cornerback-needy teams who could view Gilmore as a band-aid solution and a mentor for their younger defensive backs.”

The 13-year veteran spent the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings, which ended with a trip to the playoffs. Surprisingly, given the player’s extensive resume, 2024 was only the fifth time that Gilmore has made it to the postseason.

Gilmore Could Add a Second Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles

Gilmore won the Super Bowl at the end of the 2018 season, his second year with the New England Patriots after five seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He followed that up with a Defensive Player of the Year campaign in 2019, in his second-straight first-team All-Pro season.

The Eagles let Darius Slay walk in free agency following the team’s Super Bowl win in February, and could decide to add another experienced veteran in his place. Adoree’ Jackson is currently the favorite to fill the role vacated by Slay, but Gilmore would be a more direct replacement for Slay’s experience and leadership.

The veteran may prefer to handle more of a rotational role at this stage of his career, while the opportunity to win another Super Bowl would be difficult to turn down. A return to Dallas would also be of interest, while Green Bay offers a similar shot at the postseason.

If the frozen tundra isn’t an appealing prospect for the 34-year-old, though, Miami has a spot on its roster for another defensive playmaker. The AFC East outfit is looking to bounce back after a dreadful 2024 season, and would be an intriguing option if Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle could regain form.
