While many on social media have expressed sympathy and offered explanations, one person who has staunchly supported Shedeur Sanders throughout his unexpected fall in the 2025 NFL Draft is Cowboys legend Dez Bryant.
As Sanders dropped from a potential top-three pick to a Day Three selection, Bryant was outraged, urging the young quarterback to remember how he was treated.
However, things took a darker turn when Sanders became the target of a cruel prank. Although Sanders appeared ready to brush it off, Bryant was far from forgiving. He quickly pointed the finger at a third party, believing that individual deserved serious consequences for their actions.

Dez Bryant Calls for Firing Over Shedeur Sanders Prank
As the hopes of a top-three pick shifted to a top-10 selection, and the possibility of a first-round call evaporated entirely, Day Two of the draft became even harder to watch.
After starting as a potential QB1 for the class, five quarterbacks were selected in the first two days—but none of them was Shedeur Sanders.
This disappointment also led to an unfortunate incident where individuals, later identified as students from the Ole Miss program, decided to prank Sanders. Using his personal number, which was reserved for draft selections, they pretended to be the New Orleans Saints calling to choose him for their roster.
Trying to impersonate Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, the caller said, “How are you, man? Yeah, it’s been a long wait, man. We’re gonna take you with our next pick right here, man.” The pick was already in, leading Sanders to question the caller.
Immediately, he hung up the phone, with a parting message, “Yeah, you’re gonna have to wait a little longer, man.” The entire room burst into laughter in a truly pathetic display. But, for the Dallas Cowboys legend, the blame lay elsewhere.
Responding to the video, he wrote, “They got the number from a coach, and that coach should be fired.” Bryant, a three-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro member during his 10-year run in the league, was sure about it as Sanders confirmed that he had a private phone for draft calls exclusively.

But there is a happy ending to this story. While it wasn’t the selection anyone, least of all Sanders, anticipated, the Cleveland Browns finally called the Buffaloes star’s phone in the fifth round with the 144th overall pick.
This time, the call was real, and the son of Deion Sanders was officially, and at last, a member of the National Football League.
