Cowboys Star DeMarvion Overshown Drops Major Injury Update Ahead of 2025 NFL Season

The Cowboys may have gotten more than just a dose of optimism this week — they got a possible comeback timeline from one of their most promising young defenders. DeMarvion Overshown, who suffered a catastrophic knee injury late last season, met with the media on May 29 to share an encouraging update on his rehab.

The third-year linebacker, who missed all of 2023 and was sidelined again in 2024, talked with Cowboys media on May 29 about how he’s attacking the road to recovery.

Dallas Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown Is Gunning for 2025 Return — and a Coveted Award

Overshown isn’t just hoping to return — he’s planning to make an impact. While no firm return date has been set, Overshown sounded confident in his trajectory, sharing that he’s ahead of schedule and thinking long-term. And for a Cowboys defense looking to rebound in 2025, that’s no small development.

The injury Overshown suffered in 2024 wasn’t just serious — it was brutal. After coming back strong from a torn ACL in his rookie year to post 90 tackles across 13 games, Overshown tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL in his other knee during a late-season matchup against Cincinnati. At the time, former head coach Mike McCarthy admitted it was “fair” to say Overshown could miss all of 2025.

But Overshown doesn’t see it that way.

“Where I’m at in my rehab, in my process, it’s where I’m supposed to be plus some,” Overshown said. “I know it’s a process. It’s something we’re not rushing just because I look good. There’s no need to rush the process. I’m going to come back when I’m 100%, when I’m ready, when I know I can touch the field and not have to look down and worry about my knee.”

He’s already jogging, backpedaling, and shuffling — what he calls “all the small things” that build toward full-speed work. It’s not just rehab — it’s progression. And the confidence is showing.

“If you ask me, I can do anything and everything,” Overshown said with a smile.

The 25-year-old has already circled the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs as a personal benchmark. “Oh yeah I’m active in this,” he posted on Instagram when the 2025 NFL schedule dropped.

Whether that means returning by Week 13 remains to be seen. Overshown hinted he might begin the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list but added, “Whenever they unleash me, I’m going to be ready to go.”

That decision will ultimately fall to Cowboys’ rehab director Britt Brown. But Overshown is grinding daily as if a return is around the corner. He’s set his sights even higher.

Overshown was just as confident last month, and said during an April appearance on “Good Morning Football” that the future is bright. “The future’s looking good. I’m 100% positive. I have my sights set high. Not only do I want to be nominated for the Comeback Player of the Year, but I’m going to be the Comeback Player of the Year.”

It’s a bold goal, but considering what Overshown has already overcome, it’s hard to count him out.
