The Dallas Cowboys are starving for a Super Bowl appearance. It has been 29 seasons since the Cowboys last won a conference championship and appeared in a Super Bowl. Fans are growing restless as “America’s Team” continues to disappoint them year after year.
QB Dak Prescott is prioritizing the team over his Dallas legacy. He is looking to help the Cowboys end their Super Bowl drought and is not putting stock in solely building his legacy.
Dak Prescott’s Main Goal for 2025
Prescott is entering the upcoming season with a vengeance. After a disappointing 2024 with an injury, Prescott has his eyes on the prize. The Cowboys need a huge season out of Prescott if they want to end this long-lasting struggle. He talks about his goal to bring a championship to Dallas, and his legacy will sort itself out as a result, rather than seeking achievements to make his mark in Dallas.
“I want to win a championship. The legacy and things and whatever comes after I finish playing will take care of itself. I want to win a championship. I’ll be damned if it’s just for my legacy or for this team or for my personal being, for my sanity. The legacy will take care of itself. I have to stay where my feet are,” said Prescott.

A championship would do wonders for the Cowboys’ faithful. Prescott couldn’t care less about his legacy if it means he gets a championship. Fortunately for Prescott, he would go down very fondly in Cowboys history if he managed to deliver them a championship.
Is a Bounce-Back Season in the Cards for Prescott and the Cowboys?
Prescott is the guy in Dallas and will be for the foreseeable future. He is a three-time Pro Bowler with a 2nd place finish in MVP voting and has thrown for over 4,000 yards three times in his career. He is going to have some of the best offensive weapons he has had in his career to help him achieve his goal of winning a championship.
With a new partner in the backfield in Javonte Williams and a new wideout in George Pickens, the revamped Cowboys offense will have its eyes set on a bounce-back season. Prescott and star WR CeeDee Lamb will be back to full health as well.
A mix of new free agent signings and returning starters makes up the majority of the Cowboys’ defense in 2025. The most important piece is All-Pro Micah Parsons, as he is a game wrecker and can take games over by himself. Jerry Jones needs to find a way to keep him around long-term if they want to compete for years to come, but for now, the players, like Prescott, have their eyes set on ending the 29-year drought.
If the Cowboys’ defense holds up their end of the bargain, as well as Prescott and the offense, the Cowboys will likely find themselves in the hunt for the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season.
It won’t come easily for the Cowboys, though. The NFC East is one of the toughest divisions in the NFL, with an improving Giants team, the defending champion Eagles, and the rising stars of the Commanders. Other NFC juggernauts will stand in the way of a potential triumph, too, along with whichever AFC powerhouse is waiting in the Super Bowl.
The NFL season is never a cakewalk. Everyone has the Super Bowl on their mind and will do everything to get there. As a leader, Prescott is tasked with leading the Cowboys into battle and being the man to take the Cowboys out of a dark period of failure. His legacy might not matter to him right now, but if he wins it all for the Cowboys, he will have quite the legacy as the QB who brought them back to the pinnacle of the sport.
