The NFL rumor mill is churning in Texas, as the Dallas Cowboys are thought to be in the running for the Maxx Crosby sweepstakes. The only positive for the Cowboys’ 2025 campaign was their admirable offense; their defense posted its worst season in franchise history. As such, owner Jerry Jones and company are understandably on the lookout for reinforcement; however, Crosby seems to be out of reach for them.
What did the NFL world have to say about the matter?
NFL Experts Weigh In on Cowboys’ Interest in ‘Expensive’ Maxx Crosby
Crosby, one of the most feared pass rushers in pro football, would upgrade any defensive line he’s put on. To no surprise, plenty of teams called about his availability and price once his run with the Las Vegas Raiders seemed to be coming to an end.
The Cowboys, who allowed an average of 30.1 points per game last season, made for an obvious trade destination. However, Vegas’s asking price for the 28-year-old defensive end could reportedly cool down Dallas’s interest.
“On Maxx Crosby and the Cowboys being at play here,” NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported. “Here is what I’m being told from a team source. ‘Raiders are talking to a lot of people. But we would not give up two first-rounders.’ That’s the situation now. Will that change? I don’t know but I checked for those of you interested.”
Talks about superstars like Crosby usually open with two first-round picks, so it remains to be seen how negotiations tilt. The Cowboys also learned a tough lesson from a past experience where they gave up significant capital.
“I also believe that while Cowboys would and have parted with a 1st rounder. 2?” Slater added. “Last time they did that was for Joey Galloway, I believe? That didn’t go so well.”
“I’m going to pass on trading for Crosby if it requires something serious per all of the reports,” SB Nation’s RJ Ochoa commented. “But this is at least fun.”
If the Raiders dig in their heels at two first-rounders, Dallas could very well be out of the Crosby sweepstakes.
“The LATEST on a possible Maxx Crosby trade: If the Cowboys aren’t offering two first-round picks (which I get), it’s tough to see them being the one to land the Raiders’ star pass rusher,” Chat Sports’ Tom Downey tweeted.
“Things are moving fast re Maxx Crosby,” Trey Wingo chimed in. “Last night Dallas thought they were close to a deal but since then other teams have raised the ante and potentially are offering the Raiders 2 1st round picks Expected Dallas to now shift their focus to Trey Hendrickson.”
Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson played out his contract and could well be on the open market this offseason. Rumors have been circulating for a while regarding his departure from the team, and Dallas seems to be a favorable destination.
“Never said [two first-rounders] was the official asking price,” Slater asserted. “It’s been floated. Two is too high. Could Cowboys be entertaining a 1st or other scenarios for Maxx? I think that could absolutely be possible. We’ll see.”
Crosby likely has a couple more good years left in him, and the Raiders are expected to lean hard on the value he’d add to any team (95.3 PFSN EDGE Impact in 2025).
It’ll be interesting to see how the situation pans out.
