Controversy Erupts As NFL Fans and Analysts Slam Refs’ ‘Blatant’ Missed Call on Eagles’ Tush Push vs. Packers

NFL official Clay Martin has come under fire online for his performance when dealing with a tush push play in the Eagles-Packers MNF matchup.

Week 10’s edition of Monday Night Football is already making waves across social media, particularly surrounding the officials.

The Green Bay Packers, currently sitting at first in the NFC North, and the Philadelphia Eagles (5-2-1) were gridlocked 0-0 by the end of the first quarter. But that score occurred following a play that quickly caused noise on social media.

NFL Refs Struggle with Tush Push Call in Week 10’s MNF

The referees missed a very blatant false start on the Eagles before the tush push on third and one, with NFL insider Jordan Schultz noting that it was the Packers who originally proposed the tush push ban.

Clay Martin is the referee for the Week 10 MNF matchup. Martin is in the midst of his eighth season as a head referee and 11th as an NFL official. He and his crew previously ranked 10th in total flags per game (16).

“The first one and the refs still can’t get it called right,” one fan posted on X.

“Yeah, the tush push gotta go. These refs have no idea how to officiate it,” another said.

A tush push play occurs when the quarterback is pushed forward through the defensive line by players behind him, which is an upgraded version of the “QB sneak.” The play is typically described as being both simple and effective.

“How is that not called? How is that “hard to officiate,” one MNF watcher asked.

Clearly, it appears officials are struggling with officiating the play overall, and NFL fans are having none of it.

“I mean, it is blatant every time on the tush push and refs turn a blind eye,” one fan said.

“How do they not call that? This play is just a joke,” ESPN’s Mike Greenberg said.

The game remained 0-0 with just over seven minutes remaining before the conclusion of the first half.

Needless to say, following this call, fans have not been happy with Martin and his crew’s performance so far.
