Commanders Legend Santana Moss Sends Bold Message About Terry McLaurin’s Contract Standoff

Legendary wide receiver Santana Moss thinks he should get paid and predicts McLaurin will join him in the Commanders' Ring of Fame.

Terry McLaurin has ended his holdout and reported to training camp with the Washington Commanders. However, he has an injured ankle and was placed on the PUP list. He will no longer be fined $50,000 daily, but he and the Commanders are still far apart on a contract extension.

McLaurin can rehab and join team meetings, but whether or not he will get his desired raise is still up in the air. However, former Washington wide receiver Santana Moss thinks ‘Scary’ Terry should get the deal he desires.

Santana Moss Thinks The Commanders Should Give McLaurin His Bag

Moss appeared on SportsCenter after the Commanders retired his number 89 and just two weeks before he was inducted into the team’s ‘Ring of Fame.’

When asked about McLaurin’s desire for a hefty contract extension, Moss said, “Respectfully, just pay him.”

McLaurin signed a three-year, $68.2 million contract extension in 2022. He’s seeking a significant raise after establishing himself as one of the premier receivers in the NFL in 2024.

McLaurin, a third-round pick in 2019, caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards in 2024. Those numbers align with his career average (76.7 receptions and 1,063.2 receiving yards). Still, his 13 touchdowns and rapport with quarterback Jayden Daniels put him over the top in terms of his standing among the wide receiver fraternity.

Part of McLaurin’s desire for a new contract is extensions signed by other receivers. The New York Jets wideout Garrett Wilson signed a four-year, $130 million extension in July 2025, and the Pittsburgh Steelers receiver D.K. Metcalf signed a five-year, $150 million extension in March 2025.

Moss thinks McLaurin is destined for greatness and wasn’t shy about saying so:

“There’s nothing like seeing one-seven (referring to McLaurin’s number 17) out there,” Moss said. “You’re talking about me getting into the rafters, man, by the time he’s left, by the time he leaves here, he’s gonna be in those rafters with us.”

Moss went out of his way to laud McLaurin’s work ethic.

“From day one, he’s shown us, man, that he’s gonna go out there and make sure he gets the job done,” Moss said. “I guess you could say, he has a little bit of 89 (referring to himself) in him when it comes to just how he goes about his business.”

“Always humble. He’s always gonna give it his all and is a hard worker. And so, to me, that’s a testament to anybody who plays this game,” Moss said. “That should give anybody who has that bag to want to share it with him.”
