Coming off one of the greatest rookie quarterback seasons in NFL history and leading one of the most remarkable franchise turnarounds of all time, Jayden Daniels has to be on cloud nine. But the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year still has more goals he wants to accomplish this coming year.
After reaching the NFC Championship Game in 2024, the Washington Commanders are hoping to take it a step further this year. As a result, they were very aggressive throughout the offseason, highlighted by a blockbuster trade for wide receiver Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers. Samuel, coincidentally, factors into one of the more funnier goals of Daniels.

Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels Reveals Hilarious Plan With WR Deebo Samuel
The Fanatics Fest in New York City held from June 20 to 22 took the entire city by storm. Superstar athletes from every corner of the sports landscape, celebrities and content creators were all present in abundance for various fan interactions.
One of the premier attractions were the many panels where superstar groups sat down for a live interview, with a crowd chipping in with comments and responses. Daniels was a part of the festivities as well, and he got to share the stage with two of the all-time greats for “The QB Playbook” panel.
Alongside Dan Marino and Joe Montana, Daniels had some immense star power and two Hall of Fame quarterbacks alongside him. When the conversation shifted to the upcoming season for Washington, Daniels left everyone in splits with his answer.
Speaking about the former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, Daniels immediately responded, “I’m excited to throw him a screen and hopefully on the stat sheet it says a touchdown for 80 yards and I didn’t have to do any of the work.”

As the crowd and the rest of the panel laughed aloud, the admiration from Daniels was apparent.
“I’m just excited,” Daniels said. “He’s a great person, a great figure in the locker room. So, we’re hopefully going to see a lot of touchdowns.”
That is something the entire Commanders’ base is counting on from Daniels and his wide receiver corps. Last season, they finished with the sixth-best offense in the league, per PFSN’s Offense+ metric, as the rookie finished inside the top 10 of the corresponding QB+ metric.
This season, with more experience under his belt, better chemistry with his pass catchers and a lethal threat in the form of a former Pro Bowler and All-Pro in Samuel, the sky is the limit for Washington.
