Commanders-Bears Weather Report: Will Rainy Conditions Impact Monday Night Football Matchup?

Heavy rains were coming down in Washington, D.C., on Monday night before the Chicago Bears played the Washington Commanders.

If fans are tuning into “Monday Night Football” and hoping to see a clean game between the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, they might be disappointed.

Rains have started hitting the Northwest Stadium field before a scheduled 8:15 p.m. Eastern kickoff. It’s the main game being covered on ABC, which will have Joe Buck and Troy Aikman on the call.

Before kickoff, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels were on the field trying to get warmed up. While they were out there, heavy rains could be seen on camera.

Weather Might Cause Trouble For Bears, Commanders

A number of reporters were also on the field, and NFL Network reporter Stacey Dales posted a video on X showing the rain coming down hard an hour before kickoff.

The Commanders and Bears were doing their best to get ready for the late kickoff.

Weather concerns are often overblown. Outside of the kicking game, rain tends to impact performance less than managers would think. But there are exceptions.

It is raining hard in Washington, D.C. You probably don’t have either kicker in this game starting for you, but there are plenty of fantasy staples in this contest.

With this game being the last one of the week, it’s too late to pivot off of who you have locked in. You just have to roll with it. The slippery field tends to benefit the running game. The player with the ball knows where he is going before defenders do. The slippery field makes it more difficult for defenders to move with the offensive players. Jacory Croskey-Merritt and D’Andre Swift should be fine.

Jayden Daniels will also be okay, as the Commanders can pivot to calling more designed runs and utilizing his mobility. Caleb Williams is no statue, either, but he is not the rusher that Daniels is. If you’re starting him, it is what it is. Hopefully, he can run a little more to offset a potential reduction in passing volume.

As for the wide receivers, this is clearly a downgrade. Deebo Samuel will be fine because almost every pass thrown to him is near the line of scrimmage. His 6.9 aDOT is 88th in the league. Hopefully, you weren’t forced to start any other Commanders pass-catcher.

On the Bears’ side of things, it’s a downgrade for Rome Odunze, who has been operating further downfield. DJ Moore could benefit slightly, as he is the screen guy, and also has been taking a few direct carries out of the backfield.

The Bears were also poised to get their rookies a bit more involved tonight. Luther Burden III could still get a couple deep shots, but he isn’t startable anyway. Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet would serve to benefit slightly, as they operate closer to the line of scrimmage.
