Colts Predicted To Stun NFL By Selecting 26-TD ‘Alpha WR’ in 1st Round of 2025 Draft

Despite tight end rumors, one analyst believes the Indianapolis Colts will find their top wide receiver to pair alongside Anthony Richardson.

The future of the Indianapolis Colts franchise hangs in the balance heading into the 2025 season. They took a swing on one of the rawest prospects in NFL history with Anthony Richardson. So far, the results haven’t been great. Still, for a stable future, the Colts need to make a decision. This year might be Richardson’s final shot.

Last season, the Colts barely missed the playoffs thanks to a solid defense and strong run game. But to get the most out of Richardson and give him a real chance to succeed, they need to surround him with more weapons. One analyst thinks that help could come in the form of one of the most polarizing receivers in the draft.

Indianapolis Colts Predicted To Get Potential WR1

The Colts finished last season as the 21st-ranked offense on PFSN’s Offense+ metric. But overall, they were streaky. In one moment, Richardson was slinging the ball like an MVP; in the next, the offense came to a screeching halt.

Part of that inconsistency fell on the receiving corps. Indy had three receivers top 800 yards last year — but none went over 825. That’s why the latest mock draft from PFSN has the Colts taking a true No. 1 option.

While many have projected a tight end to Indianapolis, Cameron Sheath has them grabbing Tetairoa McMillan out of Arizona instead.

“It feels as though the Indianapolis Colts have been linked with a new tight end since the dawn of time,” Sheath joked. “In Tetairoa McMillan, the team instantly gets a new big-bodied target for Anthony Richardson, though not in the form that most seem to expect.”

At pick No. 14, Sheath says McMillan offers great value as a top-tier wideout. “His smooth route-running and outstanding hands make his dominant displays look effortless.”

And there’s already a strong foundation in place. Michael Pittman Jr.’s future remains in question with a potential $24 million cap cut looming in 2026. Josh Downs had flashes in 2024, Alec Pierce showed promise, and 2024 second-rounder Adonai Mitchell could take a big leap in Year 2.

But McMillan could be the guy to pull it all together. Over his final two seasons at Arizona, he racked up 1,402 and 1,319 yards and scored 26 touchdowns.

“McMillan would be the pick of the bunch, though, and allow the team to move on from the league’s 15th-highest annual earner at the position.”

With McMillan in the mix, another strong year from Jonathan Taylor, and a defense that’s still holding strong, the Colts might finally be ready to make some noise again.
