Colorado head coach Deion Sanders — better known as Coach Prime these days — made some waves through the first three weeks of the 2023 college football season, but he only had one player invited to the 2024 NFL Combine.
Xavier Weaver didn’t run in Indianapolis, which leaves him with plenty to gain, assuming he does take the field and participate in drills at the Colorado Pro Day.
Outside of Weaver, are there any additional players who can enter the Day 3 conversation approaching the 2024 NFL Draft with a standout performance at this event?
Colorado Pro Day 2024
Xavier Weaver, WR
Weaver was a player who gained plenty of notoriety because of his stellar play during the Buffaloes’ 3-0 start. Across those games, Weaver totaled 25 receptions for 286 yards and two scores, which put his crafty route running and playmaking skills on full display.
Colorado’s hot 3-0 start wouldn’t last, with the team losing eight of their last nine games. Nevertheless, they still managed to put Weaver on the radar of NFL scouts with his stellar final collegiate season.
Weaver led the team in both receptions (68) and receiving yards (908), which leaves his college football story with a small what-if scenario if he’d had had more time to develop rapport with Shedeur Sanders.
Unfortunately, Weaver spent the first four years of his collegiate career in Tampa with South Florida, where the football program failed to make any significant process during his time with the Bulls.
Weaver came in 11 pounds lighter than his listed playing weight last year (169 pounds at the Combine), which won’t do him any favors with NFL personnel evaluators. Players his size without elite vertical speed can find it difficult to make an impact against the more physical and hyper-athletic corners in the league.
Weaver is a gifted route runner with plenty of suddenness in his release package and regularly creates separation at the breakpoint, but he’s far from a finished prospect, even with regard to the stronger points of his game.
His 40-yard dash time and other testing metrics could prove very important when determining whether his game can translate to the NFL level. However, at the time of writing, it wasn’t clear whether Weaver would participate at Colorado’s Pro Day as he continues to rehab from an injury.
Javon Antonio, WR
Coach Prime will be losing another pass-catching playmaker on the outside heading into 2024, with Javon Antonio also taking his talents to the NFL.

Antonio failed to make a huge impact during his only year at Colorado, catching just 17 passes for 209 yards and two scores. But he possesses an intriguing athletic profile at 6’4”, 225 pounds, that could catch the eye of scouts as a late Day 3 selection or undrafted free agent prospect if he tests well at Colorado’s Pro Day.
Other players who could work out during the Colorado Pro Day include Taijh Alston, Jordan Domineck, Derrick McLendon, Juwan Mitchell, Leonard Payne Jr., Kavosiey Smoke, Blake Stenstrom, Rodrick Ward, and Noah Young.
